By anybody's standards that is a lot of money. A series of bets not going right, picking the wrong 50/50 shot and very bad luck. I always thought the next day things would even themselves out but they haven't and now I found myself not desparatley low but just ready to stop this decline. I've lost a massive amount and don't want that to double and become 12k.

My problem is that I cannot watch sport without the thrill of a bet. Could I just have a little 1 gamble on a long shot to make the event interesting? Could I do an accumulator for the same reason or can I mange to watch sport without the need to gamble. I went to the pub on Sunday and within minutes I'm on a betting site placing a bet. It's harder these days to give up with the access to the net so easily available but I HAVE to stop and need to know how to do it. I love the thrill of having a bet when watching sport and winning obviously but all I cam doing these days is winning amounts that I have lost the day before so I'm never really ahead.

Hi Shearer09,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for taking that brave initial step to post here.

I quite agree with you that 6,000 is a lot of money to lose within a short period of time; in less than 2weeks, especially, when it’s avoidable.

Gambling addiction gets worse if you don’t do anything about it, and it can easily become a downward spiral problem for you. Perhaps it would be helpful to you to install one of the following internet blocking software on your PC and mobile phone so as to block your access to gambling sites.

Please research and read about Gamblock, Net Nanny and Betfilter; see which one is more likely to give you the maximum benefit and install that one. It might cost you a little bit of money to install but, that is nothing as compared to the amount of money you’ll be losing if you keep on gambling.

I’m also advising you to read from these forum and learn of new strategies and boundaries from people who have been through such experiences, and how they’ve manage to control or stop their gambling by using these strategies. You can also apply these to yourself to help you overcome your own addiction too.

You’ll also come to realise that you’re not alone in your situation, and that there’s hope for you to overcome your addiction provided you follow those strategies and boundaries too, and that there’s no need to go through this kind of experience in silence or isolation.

Maybe you’ll like to contact our free phone Helpline on 0808 8020 133 for a 1 to 1 chat with one of our specially trained advisers. We’re open everyday from 8.00am to 12.00midnight.

I wish you all the best in your effort to overcome your problem gambling.

Thanks again for contacting us, and also for your post, and please keep posting as often as you can.

Regards,

Beatrice.

Thanks, this post is a repeat of my original post - not sure what happened.

Anyway day 3 and no gambling so I'm proud. I'm still checking my phone during the day for tennis updates but don't feel any inclination to gamble. I'm getting in and watching tv and not scouring the tv guide for sporting events to gamble on. I know not everybody can instantly stop but it's great going to bed at a reasonable time and not staying up watching a silly South American football match, and not getting that sinking feeling when another bet fails.

Be strong people!!
