Picture the scene. Boards going up on bookies up and down the land after so many compulsive gamblers quit for good. Imagine the drop that the hight street and online parasites would suffer. Who cares about the staff, i certaintly dont, do they care about you when you are sweating and running back and forth to waste more cash, NO. As the football season is now over it is a springboard surely for so many of us not to walk into one of these bookies. DONT MAKE EXCUSES. I used to think i could just have a cheecky footy bet and leave, but no, i would soon end up on those fobt machines. I am doing much better lately and in nearly three months i have spent very little gambling, but i dont want to get carried away with it. You can all do it from today. The first day of no gambling is always the hardest but just imagine managers of bookies upset and worried like what we have in the past. You can all make a difference and say no more, no more will i give money to these . QUIT TODAY FOLKS AND IMAGINE IN YOUR HEAD CLOSED DOWN BOOKIES AND A NEW SHOP SELLING FLOWERS IN ITS PLACE FOR EXAMPLE. Much better isnt it. Keep strong folks and stick two fingers up to this evil betting industry.

I really can't understand when other Compulsive gamblers blame the betting firms for what we choose to do , you might as well blame Mcdonalds or Kfc for making you fat , none of us were CG's when we started gambling we became one , just as someone who eats too much fast food will become fat , do the staff in a food shop care any more than staff in a bookies about your welfare ? , No they don't because it's a job that pays there bill's each month .

Nobody holds a gun to your head and say's gamble or eat cr.ap , they are buisinesses built on supply and demand just as any other you may come accross , you want to gamble they supply the means and you do have a choice , accountability starts with us not them !.

Yes they do entice you in. They offer free competitions on fobt machines and get you hooked on them, The betting industry rope you in with free bets etc etc etc. I hope that bookies and staff do close down and that they are replaced with shops that serve the community better. If these s**m bookies are not their in the first place or not reeling us in with offers and competitions we wouldnt go in in the first place. If they had not have opened up more and more shops and opened earlier and closed later many of us would not have had this problem to begin with. Your response Alan is tottally unhelpful to what i am saying. IF WE ALL FROM THIS POINT ON STOP GOING IN IT WOULD MAKE THE HIGHT STREET BOOKIE SUFFER AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM BOARDED UP AND CLOSED DOWN. OH AND GAMCARE PLEASE DONT BLOT OUT CERTAIN WORDS I HAVE USED, IF YOU WANT TO PROTECT THE FILTH BOOKIE INDUSTRY THEN DONT BOTHER WITH THIS SITE OR ALTERNATIVLY BAR ME FROM IT.

I'm not protecting anyone but if you don't want to gamble then don't go in , Simple really ! , I was never once reeled in by free offers or competitions but chose to walk through those doors to gamble and I enjoyed it , when it started costing me more time and money than I could afford to lose , I was faced with a choice , continue or stop and I chose the later .

I don't care who it is is that comes on this site and blames everyone else for there gambling problem , the first bet you place is through choice and you enjoyed it as did I , it was about the thrill the excitement and the thought of winning a few quid , It's only when you begin to enjoy it too much and it becomes an escape route from life that like I and and all the others on this site who become compulsive gamblers that you look to blame someone else .

You might as well close down every pub , fast food outlet as well if your going down that route as they all entice you in with 2 for 1 deals on drinks and as for fast food well kfc do a bucket and that's only one step away from a trough !.

Like I said , supply and demand !

Oh and a quick Ps No problem , I have a really good mate from my school day's who's a Betting shop manager and has been for many years and then there's My uncle who along with his daughter and wife have owned a family run independant bookies for many years until his retirement about 3 years ago , so I really don't take kindly to you branding them as s**m and P*********s as a nicer family you would be hard pressed to find .

We are the addicts , not them, so maybe deflecting your anger is not the way forward ?

God grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change.
Courage to change the things i can.
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi half life , look I'm not going to keep arguing the point ,were obviously not going to agree and that's what everyones entitled to do on here but if your going to say that gambling establishments are responsible soley for what we choose to do as gamblers , then why are you not saying that pub's create alcoholics and fast food joints are responsible for obesity !.

All addictions and all fed by high street shops , Lke I said ,accept that we all have choices and we made the choice to gamble, where others choose to drink themselves into oblivion or eat pies all day long . .

I am actually doing very well at the moment. But their are people out their that would be doing a hell of a lot better if bookies didnt entice people in or advertise on the tv so much. Yes we are all responsible for our own actions but those with a gambling problem need a little help to start with.

I have family and friends who work in the bookmakers. I find it hard there being labeled as P*********s? They make a living as do i
Where I live there is 8 convenience store's they all sell liquor. Why because there's a demand for it. I wouldn't call the staff in the shop P*********s for serving alcoholics.
At the end of the day it's a service like any other we chose if we use it or not. I've been round gambalers a long time and they always blame everyone but them selves this machines fixed or that games rigged. Then why do we continue to play them if that's what we think. It's illogical
Yes they are swung in the vendor's favour. No one is just going to hand you free money and not want a profit..
You can't stop them making money.
But you can prevent them from taking any more of yours

Yeah that's a good point Adam and one I've raised myself. The sponsorship of sporting events and widespread advertising during events will stop when gambling reaches epidemic levels. It stopped with the cigs and it was curtailed with the booze and gambling will be next.

The industry does put obstacles in the path of the blind, they do tempt people who are ill equipped to resist. They have the moral low ground.

But illness or not, temptation or not, high or low ground, it comes down to accepting responsibility for yourself, your choices and your actions. Because if you don't directly control what you do, then who does? And if you're not responsible for what you do, then who is? The buck stops with you.

Well the buck shouldn't have to stop with a 12 year old who's watching a football match nowadays and who will invariably get sucked in to the name on the shirt he's wearing, the boardings going round the pitch, the actor talking through the non stop adverts and the commentators discussing the Sky bet odds for the event. That's what we are dealing with now so you're missing my point slightly.
