Hi there, not quite sure how this forum thingy works but just need to let it all out and writing helps so here it goes, I just can't cope any-more to be honest, I'm so sick of the sight of money, and every single time I get it any it goes straight to various bookmakers and slot machine places, every time I swear it will never happen again, and every time it does. it probably started when I was about 18, very long story but I got kicked out for stealing money (too gamble :-/ so my own fault) and ended up in a really low place, I was gambling every day, not eating, not paying bills and not doing anything really accept gambling and trying to get more money too gamble. about 3 years ago I said enough was enough, I went back to college and managed to pass an access to education course which would get me in to uni, I managed to pass with distinction and my gambling did improve a little bit, although thinking about it I lost out on a 12k a year job because I was gambling on the day I was meant to be getting votes which wasn't great tbh 🙁 , anyway though I started university and I am trying to rebuild my life and kick all the habits I had in the past, I've already quit smoking (cig's and cannabis) and am really trying my best but every time I get money it is gone before I even think about it, take this month for example I've spent 4000 prob 2700 on gambling now I'm living on noodle soup until September lol. I'm getting kicked out because i haven't paid the rent and I'm in about 15k debt, gambling has ruined my life once and I don't want it to ruin what I see as my second chance. I know there isn't some sort of magic pill I can take and its all about will power, I guess I just needed a moan. any questions feel free to ask though... thanks 4 listening lol
Hi spikeymikey - First things first: I don't know your particular method of gambling, but if it's online then self-exclude permanently NOW!
If you frequent bookies, self-exclude from them too. Also install an online blocking program such as K9 (which is free). These are great barriers to stop you losing any more money.
Next, Gamcare can help you with counselling if you think you need that, or any other advice you might need.
But of course the best thing you have done is to join us on this site - here you will find immense support and encouragement to help you kick this terrible and destructive habit. We have all been through what you have, to a greater or lesser degree, and it is possible to turn your life around and find the 'sanity' of being free from gambling.
You know what it has done to you already - I guess that you are still quite young, so resolve to change your life for good. It can be done - I'm not saying it will be easy, but it will certainly be easier for you by getting and taking all the help and advice on offer here.
Best wishes for your journey.
Joanna
