Hello everyone.

I have made a huge mistake and spent my rent money and i dont know how to get back from this.

I have no family/friends that are in the position to help and i am dreading telling my landlord (private rent) that i cant afford this months rent.

I have applied for a Discretionary housing payment as i receive some universal credit as i have 2 children and am at university. But i highly doubt they will issue one due to my bank statements being full of gambling transactions.

PLEASE any help/advice anything will be gratefully appreciated! thank you x

There's support available for you  , and you are never alone .  You can contact us anytime on 0808 8020 133 or via our website on our Netline service .

In regards to the debt side of things a good organisation to call would be Step change on 0800 138 1111 . They offer advice on debt and money issues and can help you set up payment plans and budgets . We would also advise that you contact your local citizens advice service for advice and support.

Thanks for posting and sharing this and take care.

as it is just one month i dont think there is a major concern to be worried

the landlord cant evict you for one month missed rent it will take months of court proceedings to evict you

i am not sure landlords are even allowed to evict in the current covid circumstances

anyway  i would try and get in touch with local citizens advice bureau and get some clarification on that

ultimatley landlord cant take what you haven't got just text them and say an emergency's come up and you cant pay for a couple weeks

Hello @thisisruiningmylife,

You seem to be extremely distressed right now, I'm so sorry you're experiencing this.

I strongly recommend getting in touch with our advisers on the Helpline (0808 8020 133) or the Netline (www.gamcare.org.uk/netline) to talk through what support is available and get you linked in with what you need. I'm not sure what counselling you've tried, but there are various options for treatment through ourselves, the NHS, and residential from Gordon Moody (www.gordonmoody.org.uk).

You say that you don't know where to turn, you can turn to us, you aren't alone.

If you're unable to afford food, you can get help through a food bank. You can search for your local one and get information on how to access it here:
www.trusselltrust.org/get-help/find-a-foodbank

Again, you're not alone, there's lots of support available, please continue reaching out.

I really do know how you feel. Today for me is marks day 1. i have banned myself from all sites. But again left my self with no rent money and not much money to live on. I have spoke with my landlord and explain about the finances and shes been understanding. I also have 2 small children and the thought of everything they could have had makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Hi i can truely understand the depths of where you are coming from, no one truely  appreciate that gut wrenching  sick feeling of waking up the day after a all night gambling frenzy at the casino to the realisation that you have spent everything every last penny!!, bill money rent money and food money. firstly that money is gone!, dont chase your losses!, what are you going to do now so it doent happen again!, well firstly your money has to be controlled by someone you trust!, effectively you cannot be trusted with money, sorry to tell you but that's the truth!!, if you have no one that can manage your money open up a ISA account, have say £20 per day placed into this ISA account for food and leisure, set a direct debit up from your current account via a standing order for all your bills rent, council tax, water, car insurance etc. then destroy your current account bank card, and keep just the ISA account bank card. all of your bills will be paid via direct debit and you will have your spends the £20 per day to use as you will, delete your internet banking. the key is remove your access to the money. i did this 500 days ago and it has worked!!, sure i have spent £5  on scratch cards, but before i was blowing my whole monthly wage in one casino session. i was able to save money have a nice holiday this year and begin to feel human again, also ban yourself from the casinos, bookies and arcades. YOU can do it i have done it, i never in a million years thought i would have the strength to follow through but once you put these measures in place your life will change for the better!!, do it!!, or you will continue in this same miserable cycle forever, best of luck
