Hi everyone

Back again. I came into some money recently. 50k. I'd been feeling fantastic not gambling. So good I felt utterly cured. I thought, a bet won't hurt. Long story short, I won 8k in three days. I thought I'm up so I'll just use 2k to see if I can get more then I'll stop. Guess what, lost the 8 and another 6 since chasing. The 50k is still in tact but my credit card is 10k down. I've stopped now. The guilt I feel is overwhelming. I've got the urge to chase but won't. I really can never gamble again. I can't control it.

Well done on realising that its not worth chasing it, money is money no matter what amount your trying to chase, but the stakes you mention are obviously alot of money to anyone so learn from this that you can never be fully 'cured' i to thought i was once so started with small bets but it just escalates id hate to think of you losing that 50k.. youve admitted you can control it so thats good and gives you a platform to build on.

All the best

Hi Smithy, i have come here again tonight because i have lapsed again (in a similar boat to you). My life's savings or to be blunt what I had left to show for a lifetime's work was too low for me and I was worried every day about a big bill coming home to roost. I came into some money 14 days ago, lost 20% of it last nite. The feeling of such self loathing right now is unbearable. i have been through this scenario so many times, what is wrong with me, can only a winning spinning ball make me happy. I have had help (lots) but to be honest i thought i can control this but you can't, if I start i can't stop. I'm scared from a finances point of view as to where i am going and will end up. Really choked right now, i have f....d my life right up. Sorry to hijack your thread Smithy, but i felt so alike to you when i read your initial post. Good luck mate

You need to stash that money away where you can't get it at otherwise you will blow the lot. It's a cliche but when you are in a hole you need to stop digging yourself in deeper.

would re illiterate De loreans's comments the first thing i thought when i read about having 50k was please move it somewhere you cant touch it, stick it in a 1 year ISA you cant touch or something or ask someone you trust to watch over it, same with you lost my life, eventually you may get the urge and blow even more, think sense before its too late. Good luck to you both.

Thanks for comments guys, and Lost My Life I'm sorry to hear you've slipped. I was exactly the same as you, I just couldn't stop, somehow I did. I had cold sweats at night for about 3 nights afterwards. I've not gambled since and I have no urge at all now. If you can just stop and let some time pass you will feel better. I've been here before more than once but this time it's different. I'm not losing that cash. I get paid on Friday so will be topping back up and start paying off the credit card. Hope you're all good guys. Take care.
