I agree with your sentiment, Mixer. We are all on our individual journeys on here and just because people aren't stating that they have signed up for GAMSTOP doesn't mean they haven't. I did it this morning and I pleased that I have put another block in place by doing so and I would encourage others to do the same. However, I think the thing is to try and not compete with anyone other than yourself, because that is where the true battle to be won is.

SLS - Just because a dog didn't bark in the night doesn't mean there isn't a dog, if you get my famous Sherlock reference.

If you dont, then just because people haven't proclaimed their Gamstop membership doesn't mean to say they haven't taken action.

It's the log in our own eyes we need to concern ourselves with, SLS, not the speck in others, if this biblical reference makes more sense.

You've joined, and assume taking other blocking activity to minimise the chances of a relapse. That's good, SLS; let's celebrate, build on this, and positively encourage others.

All the best,

Mixer

I've registered with Gamstop yesterday - within a day, I can't log in to any gambling sites I was registered with...excellent!! This is a MASSIVE step in the road to recovery for me. Seriously guys, if you use online gambling and want to quit... just register & self exclude!! You won't regret it. As someone else previously said, gambling sites will HATE this if a lot of compuslive gamblers self exclude using the service, as a huge chunk of their profits will be coming from compuslive gamblers....

Mr L has tried to register online several times, failed and now has to go through the cumbersome phone procedure. First person he spoke to sounded like she didn't know what she was doing and wasn't particularly bothered about doing it anyway. Second time he tried he was left holding on for about twenty minutes before getting through. I can't help wondering how many people are either giving up, 'waiting till later' or excusing themselves from bothering at all thanks to the poor service and demanding telephone procedure.

Great idea in principle but the practice is so far somewhat lacking. It needs to be far, far easier to implement and it also needs to offer a permanent exclusion option.

I've registered.
I can't think of any reason why anyone who uses these forums would not register.
A brilliant and free service. Anyone who is thinking of registering should stop thinking and just register!

I just registered and I am so excited. The only setback is it seems to only have gambling sites that have registered. Can anyone clarify if it is all UK licensed sites or only ones that have registered?

This is the response I got from the online chat on the GAMSTOP website

"At the moment its not all UK licenced gambling sites but hopefully soon the gambling commission will make it like that but at the moment it isnt unfortunately"

GamCare have advsied that ALL onlines casinos will have to sign up to GamStop by the end of the year ... meantime, we've got to be strong.

I also asked Gamstop if the gaming operators where just as liable if you where to self exclude directly on there site. This was the answer -

"Gamstop hold the national database and operators will cross reference their customers against this and act accordingly. It is the operators themselves processing the exclusion, so the liability would still be the same as per the current process they have"
