Like Katiecoo I also have urges to gamble most days. But I choose, every day, not to. Sometime it makes me very anxious but I remember what I'm fighting for: a better life, rather than a road of absolute misery. (But not half as anxious as I used to be when a gambled shed-loads and lost - I got angry, lied to my wife, had long sulks; do I want to return to that? Errrr... No.)

This is a battle one day at a time. What's helpful is to avoid any form of gambling whatsoever, that's 'dry' gaming (for free or 'coins'), adverts on the telly (turn your head) etc. Get it out of your consious, and your sub-consious will slowly but surely gradually 'wean' itself off.

It's not easy. But it can be done, one day at a time. Keep with it, there are a LOT of good people of here similarly resolved. Yet that collective strength of feeling and resolve be a huge boost to you.

What do you think caused the "horrendous anxiety"? Lack of money a few days ago or an underlying issue? The reason I ask and this is only my experience was that I realised that to a very large degree I was using gambling to mask other problems I had in my life and in my head. Of course the gambling then became the problem and the cause of more anxiety and so on.....best wishes, Phil.

Hi Phil,

Very true and I think I agree with you on that one. There are a few issues I would change in my life.

Got paid half of what I expected to be paid today (joys of being self employed) - Urges to gamble to double it up to something i expected 🙁

Play it through to the end as if it was a film. Gamble and the ending won't change any more than it ever has.
