Best wishes on your journey. Hope you can stay on track with your savings. Just be wary. I've recently gambled away some money I'd saved up when I was abstaining from gambling. It's easy to fall back into the trap. Maybe think about putting your savings into an account that isn't easy access? Well done on stopping gambling!

Dangerous time! Met up with my bro and a few mates for a pint or six tonight. Just got home and here alone with my iPad. This is when I would usually wake up in the morning hundreds if not thousands lighter due to stupid drunk betting. Glad to say that tonight, despite my less than sober state, im not even concidering depositing into a betting site. I know I'll be more pleased with myself tomorrow than if I had won £1k overnight. Pleased that I can restrain from betting even under these circumstances! Have a great weekend everyone x

Ahhhh the get home drunk and keen for a bet mood. Good work staying off it, it's the worst when you wake up to an empty wallet, hung over and an empty bank account.... Sounds like you're killing it Argie! Good luck!

Cheers Chubb. 15 days now. Still feeling strong and motivated. Went walking with mates over the weekend and ended up on top of Pen-Y-Fan in Wales yesterday, nice way to see two weeks without betting in. Kinda thing that cost about £100 that I wouldn't have been able to do if I was still gambling due to lack of funds and/or lack of Internet on in the Brecon Beacans. Roll on another week 🙂

Morning all, after an arduous 2 day first aid course I have reached day 17. Still going strong! It was really nice to meet and chat to new people on the course, usually my head would have been elsewhere and my break times spent sat in my car watching scores on my phone. I've made some good friends and even been invited to others place of work to see how they run their settings. All things that wouldn't have happened if I hadn't stopped gambling as I would have been preoccupied. Has anyone tried hypnotherapy to maintain being gamble free rather than to quit initially? It's something I have never really considered before but feel my mind is open enough to potentially see positive results. After speaking with the local hypnotherapist it sounds like it will be 1-3 session depending on how it goes (that's £60-£180) - sounds a lot but in relation to what I was losing isn't much at all. I don't feel I need any support at the moment but I remember the one time I have tried to quit before I had one moment of weakness, after feeling good, and bang I was back losing all my money.

Argie,

The gamble free time is all good, keep going but you're letting your addiction tell you some comforting deceptions along the way. Leaving an intact triangle isn't about you retaining "control", it's about leaving doors open just in case you change your mind about quitting.

Willpower always melts away in the face of an strong enough urge. Compulsion to gamble. Hence the advice to have barriers to start with and not to test yourself. You're different / this time is different? That's addict thinking flying in the face of reality.

Recovery is more than staying gamble free, it's about relearning a normal way of thinking. If your laptop's blocked, SE is in place, and you've nothing to deposit with, you would be better able to ride out an urge. But at the same time, get the external support, best from GA. Recovery's doable with effort and using the willpower to do what it takes to quit. There are no quick fixes but anything worth having is worth the effort. By you for you.

BW,

CW

Glad to hear it Christer1, stay strong and kick this! Have you started your own diary, i often read back over what i have put just to keep me on the straight and narrow. Thanks for the advice CW, as im plowing every penny into debts at the mo the triangle is virtually broken anyway, prehaps have access to £20 just to make myself feel i am doing it myself rsther than being forced not to do it, maybe not the way by the book but think its the way im going to go.

If it works Argie, best of luck to you. If it doesn't work for some reason, just be aware you have options 🙂

It is working for me at the moment 🙂 I was surprised how much my mind set on money has changed already, I used to borrow money off anyone and everyone to place a bet, not giving a d**n how much I was pleading.. Shameless! As I was saying due to putting all my money into savings I have left myself with little or no money which hasn't really phased me as I'm pretty used to that feeling by now, however, yesterday I was asked to cover work meaning I needed £10 for fuel and I really struggled to ask for it. I guess because I virtually have my finacial situation back under control it felt bad to have to ask for it. I see this as a positive thing because there's no need to have to borrow money off others for essentials. Anyway I imagine this is probably the last time I am going to have to do it! Happy times.

My life has been turned upside down in the last couple of weeks and it all started with quitting gambling. It's made me a happier more productive person and the positivity must be working wonders! I have met some awesome new people, got a promotion at work, don't have finacial worries (calls, text, knocks at the door), and I have decided to cycle to landsend from my home in Devon in a couple weeks time. Might not sound like a massive ride to a lot of people but I'm new to the cycling scene so I'm going to spend 3 days leisurely riding the 160 miles, stopping off at camp sites each evening with nothing but my Spotify playlist for company, going to use it as a time to assess where I am in life and, for the first time, try and have a rough idea of where I want to be in 5 years. I'm in a GOOD place right now 🙂 hope everyone else is feeling good and on the road to recovery/where they want to be.

Day 19

Another day gamble free, had my first practise cycle for my Landsend expedition today, 30 miles done in a couple of hours. Realised quite how hard the ride is going to be, give me something to focus my attention on I guess. Have a great weekend everyone.
