Hi tommyb,

National Debtline / StepChange and other such organisations are finanancial experts on debt advice and consolidation and can help answer questions you may have about gambling related debt and how to deal with creditors.

A quick look at your posts indicates that you are still battling quite strong urges to gamble which can occur for many reasons, including that of trying to cope with stress by using gambling as escapism or distraction. It can be quite hard for people to change their underlying beliefs about gambling as a way to make money and so on, and many people struggle with ambivalence when trying to stop gambling. If you want advice on stronger strategies to block access to problem gambling, or to understand the range of treatment and advice available, please don't hesitate to contact an Advisor on either the HelpLine 0808 8020 133 or the netline if you haven't done so already.

Warm regards

Leigh

Hi tommy try and focus on today. My husband had huge debts which he paid, including remortgage. I know lending has had some reform but as far as I can see most lenders carry on letting gamblers rack up immeasurable debt on loans and cards. If you make steady repayments of debt you are showing you are credit worthy. Realistically stop giving yourself more to worry about. The future isn't here yet.

Hi life is great... Today I'm 163 days off gambling.... I'm hopefully getting a house In 2019 with my beautiful future wife and I'm not looking back. To be honest I can't wait to see the back off 2018 as its been a hell off a year. But as they say what doesn't kill us will make us stronger. I own my partner so much as she is my rock and has supported me all the way through this and I never want to let her down again. It can be done and I now realise that gambling is like the devil. There are no winners only the bookies.

Hi Tommy, just been catching up on your story and hope you're doing well. I'm early days myself and take inspiration from someone who's managed to keep going as long as you have. Good luck with it all!

Hi Lil30... You have to stay strong and think of everything you will lose. I had no choice as I was going to lose everything and especially the woman I'm in love with. I'm so happy I'm not the person I was. Don't get me wrong I think about gambling all the time but then I take a time out and tell myself everything I will lose if I do it again. It had a grip on my life once but now I have a grip on it. If you ever need to talk I'm always here

Hi all.... I have not been on for a while. Today I'm 250 days gf. Its so good but this is a really hard time off the year. I mostly used horses to gamble. Cheltenham is on in a few weeks and I really am going to find that hard. This will be the 1st year in about 17 years I'll not be doing bets for it. I just need to keep clam and put it to the back of my mind but I see it everywhere. It's everywhere I look at the moment.

Well done Tommy, 250 days is a great achievement.

Don't let Cheltenham wreck all the hard work you have put in.

Stay strong.
