Thanks Ade for your ever encouraging words on my diary. Glad to hear that you are still making progress on your recoveries and that you have a few months convalescence before you return to work. Enjoy your time before rejoining the rat race!

Thanks for the supportive posts Weldy, Suzanne, GT and Sandra,

Haven't posted for a while, mainly because gambling does not figure in my life anymore. I am nearly 11 months into my recovery, and my life has improved so much. I no longer have that horrible anxiety that accompanied my gambling addiction. And more importantly than that, my perspective on life in general is now where it should be.

It still disturbs me that I managed to descend into such a mess, but I have a great sense of relief that I managed to arrest my situation (eventually), and then build a solid recovery. It is possible to do. At times in the past, I never thought I'd be able to stop, even though I felt like I was trying, I never sustained anything like what I have now.

I have also recently had my 6 week check up, following my open heart surgery. An ECG and chest X-Ray showed that the surgery and recovery is going well, and I am now allowed to drive, cycle and swim. Although I cannot lift anything over 5 kilo's for another 6 weeks, meaning my return to work will be on 30th November. Which is also around the time when I will reach a year gamble-free.

Keep strong all

Recovery is possible

Ade

Thanks for the post GT.

Tomorrow is my eldest daughters 13th birthday. I was thinking earlier today that when I first learnt about this website, and started my first recovery diary she was 6. It took me that long to get to grips with my problem. It really is quite a sobering thought that it took me that long to turn my life around, and get back on track.

Tomorrow also marks another highlight in my year, as I take delivery of my brand new Ford B Max. I had my previous car for 11 years, so tomorrow is something of a big day for me. It is something that seemed a million miles away this time last year, but I have managed to do it.

Keep strong all, as recovery is indeed possible.
