Hi Steve
I was just reading a post you made to somebody and love the gateaux/rice cake analogy! Gateaux = instant gratification though not good for you! Rice cakes = acquired taste but healthy!
I'm off out to buy myself some rice cakes!!!
Hope you have a great, bet free day!
Hi all, thanks for your posts, sorry I haven't been able to get back sooner, funny old day yesterday, quite testing but managed to keep busy and get another day under my belt. 6 weeks today or 42 days which I'm very pleased about. My aim now is to get to 50, fingers crossed. Keep strong all and take care, Steve.
Just to clarifie your last post,
Is that 50 days or 50 weeks ?????????
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,
One day at a time and you will reach both.
And looks like you passed the test, keep going might be more testing days , but you get through them .
Stay strong,

Day 43, next target 50. I self excluded myself online and over the telephone years ago to try and curb my gambling. That instant fix of gambling with the horses was gone, or so I thought. However instead I swapped one avenue for another. Now I would drive to betting shops throughout my area to place a bet, often a breakneck speed. There must have been 10-15 shops that I went to regularly, changing from one shop to another when my luck ran out or just through shame of spending so much in one place (does that make sense?) now I have to walk past these places to do everyday normal things, like what everyday normal people do but I have to be aware of their pulling power. They're still like magnets to me, inviting triggers. I walked past one on Tuesday to pay my car tax at the Post Office, I admit it was uncomfortable. Everywhere I go it feels like I'm bumping into an old mistress, tempting me. No one will know, just our little secret, harmless. If I had a giant, magic rubber I'd erase those 'shops' or at least my head for a while. Despite all this, I'm still clean and haven't gambled, life is undoubtedly better and I have to keep reminding myself of that. Keeping strong, take care all, Steve.
Good morning to you,
Thinking about what you wrote. I live on a main road and to do my shopping I pass 2 bookmakers.
Still very aware they are there, but the magnetic pool is no longer functioning.
When I was in recovery before think I did actually not notice them. But that took about a year.
I wrote somewhere recently about only noticing where an opticians was when you needed it. If you had perfect sight you would be unlikely to be able to put your finger on where the nearest one was.
I am sure that in time I would be unlikely to even notice a bookies should I visit another town.
I think you are doing brilliantly, just remember that every time you walk past one , you strengthen your resolve.

Ps don't know a lot about magnets, but if a remember rightly, if to put 2 the same together the actually they push each other away. If I am right, take care with all your resolve you may well walk past a bookies and find your self pushed by an known force onto the other side of the road Lol
Just wanted to say a big, fat well done to you for resisting the pull of those blinking bookies! They are so hard to avoid these days so well done for staying strong!
Keep going mate.. I am willing you on to your next target!
LMM
Steve well done 4 walking past the bookies when paying your car tax. Your doing great and your sense of humour helps the forum so much.
Enjoy the sport today and keep focused!
Hi Steve
Great post which I think a lot of us will relate to esp myself I used to choose which bookies to go to thinkin how much time I had spent there just so they would think I hadn't got a problem
Now we av admitted this that's what gives us the strength to make that decision to walk past and for me it feels so good
Take care

I would really love it if one day I was able to walk down the high street without noticing any of those gambling establishments. Whether this day will come, I don't know.
All we can do right now is to look at them with disgust or just simply smile with the knowledge that they won't be taking any money from us today.
Keep repelling them!
