Hi, I’m 20 years old and I’m a gambling addict. Addicted to sports betting, I’ve done what every compulsive gambler has done, started attempted to stop, started again believed I could control it. But now I am no longer a gambler. If you want to change something then you’ve got to want to do it. In the past this hasn’t been the case, I wanted to stop losing. I’m genuinely scared of what this addiction could do to my life If I don’t stop now. I have signed up to GAMStop great website only took two minutes to sign up, it immediately takes a lot of weight off your shoulders knowing there’s no point trying to find every website and signing up. So this is day 1 Monday 30th April. My last ever bet was Sunday 29th April 2018.
Well done on realising at your age that gambling is going to do nothing but hamper you and hold you back in life.
Gambling is a big lie, especially to us compulsive gamblers.
What’s the point in trying to ‘win’ when all we end up doing is giving back our ‘winnings’ almost straight away....and then follows the rest.
The very best of luck on your journey ahead, YorkshireLad.
Keep posting on your diary and watch those days mount up. Each one worth celebrating at the end of a day.
Let there be good times ahead.

Thanks for the kind words Dan. It’s the greed that gets us CG’s. We think we can make easy money, when in reality if this was the case then everybody would do it. Looking forward to making small steps and taking it one day at a time.
Well done pal . My last bet 'again' was yesterday too. Let's see if we can do this

Great start and you’ve got you head sorted, which really helps keep the addiction tendencies under control.
Welcome YorkshireLad.
I have fallen in and out of recovery many times -now back to keep GF for a year - 4 months in and keeping it together. So, as you say, if you commit, then you will win but if you don’t you will fall again and feel the pain. Delighted you found Gamstop and hope you have other blockers in place. Keep strong.
4 months is a great start any tips? I presume it is getting easier as time is a great healer! Yes gamblock is a great block and I got a friend to scratch the 3 digits off my card.
Day 2 complete. Tried to keep busy at work and keep my mind off things worked to an extent, came home and went to training was nice to get out and forget about the gambling world for an hour. Back to reality though when I got home, going to struggle this month but it’s a good reminder of what gambling has done to me. Luckily I have no debt so always looking with the glass half full attitude. Just going to find a nice box set to start on before calling it a night.
Hi YL, I’m a fellow young Yorkshireman and have also just signed up to Gamstop. I wish you all the luck - im currently on day 7

Hi YorkshireLad - Wishing you all the best in your recovery and I'm glad you're cracking the habit at 20 years old - you've got a whole life that needs to be lived without having to deal a gambling habit that'll do its best to destroy it.
And I'm so glad I dropped into this diary - I've just registered to GAMStop and it feels like a perfect start to the day.

Gamstop is great takes a real weight off your shoulders straight away. Day 4 done work was quiet today and I would’ve usually gambled today but good blocks in place and my mind is currently in a different place, did some more training tonight and just reading a few diaries before bed. Trying to stay focused and consistent.
Checking back in on Day 10 gamble free had a hectic bank holiday which consisted of drinking a lot of alcohol and enjoy the rare sunshine in the UK. Can’t say gambling has crossed my mind too much since i last checked in when it has done I’ve just occupied my mind with something else and let the thoughts pass.
Day 25 - thought it would be a good opportunity to check in, as its payday tommorow and don’t want to fall into bad habits I’ve had a month more or less no thoughts of gambling, why should that change tommorow because I have a bit more money in my pocket. It shouldn’t change it at all staying positive.
Affected by gambling?
