Thanks Sars - and your good self buddy, when you visit Chat you really do "light up the room" !
I am fortunate, by virtue of what I do in life, of being able to take things on the chin, which I always do. I do not take any ... nonsense. I do have sympathy, though, for use who have to go through the mill here, finding it unpleasant or even intimidating or bullying. Fortunately, Gamcare tend to keep on top of things when it does happen. We're all recovering here - emotionally it can be a very delicate time as we try to rebalance our lives. But I guess, this site being open to everyone - as it should be - means you'll get the entire range of personalities and attitudes ... ah well. We get on with it!
Coming through ... Day 92. Top drawer Sars 🙂 !
Day 22. Counselling starting next week (first week of twelve). Slowly moving into gear.
Well done mixer 8 more days and you're a striver ! Keep it up buddy!
Sars
Yes mixer like many you seem to have helped on here thanks for all your engouragement.
In my diary I actually explain how I clean a betting shop but it never becomes a issue with my gambling cause not aloud to. With them and if anything has helped me cause I got the nut self exlude number from there. And my boss tells me stories like this well on Fri A punter put 7k on a baseball team to win and it did yest he went back and. Spent all on another game and lost just shows how bad gambling gets I'm shrill on 12
Hi Christer,
Your boss knows what happens like we all do. It's the same pattern every single time. If we win, we keep gambling till we lose it, and then we lose some more. In other words, we always lose. It's misery.
You're on Day 12. A new week coming up; day by day, keep grinding out those days. Remember, you're FREE of this. Just remind yourself everyday the one thing you've got to do: "Just for today, I will not gamble."
Day 24. Utterly resolved today. And I'll make sure I'm utterly resolved tomorrow.
Hi Mixer. Welcome back, but sorry for your personal circumstances which gave you an excuse to return to gambling. I see you as one of the main players on this forum; always helping others with honest, down-to-earth advise.
Recovery and abstinence is serious business and you show clarity and purpose with this.
Having been there, done that, tried things differently and then come back for more, you know how it is...
Gambling takes over lives; often becoming the main focus and source of stimulus. We cannot simply become non-gamblers! We'll probably have to fight against it for the rest of our days.
Good luck mate.
I was also watching a good series last night called broken in which this middle aged women stole 140 K off her boss over years but basically she blew it on the machines in bookies.and then took her life. I don't know if the stories were real life but they well documented how fobt in bookies are bad.
Yes you're right take each day at a time really
These stories are all too true, Christer. The thing is, though, it doesn't have to me you, or me, or indeed anyone here using Gamcare. We have a choice - life or misery. When you realise that misery isn't really a choice (who chooses misery...?) then you can relax. You know gambling's no good. You know you can't win. So be gambling free and feel relaxed about it. Not stressed. Trying to suppress thinking about gambling? I say - think about gambling! And think - "I'm free of it. I don't need to do it. So I'm happy I'm not doing it".
Gambling free tomorrow Christer? I reckon so, my friend 🙂
Hi changemylife,
Thank you very much for your kind words; it is of course bittersweet because none of us would rather be here (in other words, not having this addiction) but we are in a very good and safe place.
You are right; this is a very serious business indeed and we need all of our firepower to beat it. And we can certainly tame it, day by day, with the right approach and planning, day by day.
I sincerely hope life is treating you well, changemylife and delighted to cross paths with you once more!
Day 26. Off to work with £3 in my pocket. That's all I need.
I love that! 'off to work with £3 in my pocket. That's all I need.
Fact is that many people spend far more than they need to. We don't have to buy an expensive sandwich for lunch or waste money on things we don't really need. It's actually quite liberating to walk around with just a few
coins in our possession and no other means of credit.
I must agree less you carry the better it feels nicer
Affected by gambling?
