Christer, that's the spirit.

May I give you one thought.

Would you rather be bored being skint and miserable? Or bored with money in your pocket?

At least with money, you have options.

What could you do with ... £100? Forget gambling. £100? Maybe not for you. But your loved ones? Their smiles would be priceless.

Agreed?

Allow yourself a smile.

And keep gambling free, Christer.

Hi Mixer just wanted to say thanks for your help in the chat room last night. I couldn't promise not to gamble and I did gamble so I'm now on day 0 not day 1. But I've closed down that avenue now and going to try and give myself time out from gambling.

I will have a read of your diary later as well.

Onwards and upwards 🙂

4D

Mixer, Mixer, Mixer...oh dear.

A sonnet.

Pah!

I simply won't conform to such strict verse. To do so would constrict my creative liberty.

Poetic structures not the boss of me!

I will at some point for you Mixer break down these rhyming restraints you try to place upon me with a little something from my new boundary-breaking avant anarcho-sonnet subgenre movement.

It'll be very good...

And quite possibly look suspiciously like a haiku to those with an uncultured eye q;-)

Ok,Glint, and you are right to take your time, for as MoliГЁre once said: “Trees that are slow to grow, bear the best fruit.”

I patiently await your Magnum Opus (no pressure 😉 )

Talking of patience, I've clamly banked another GF day, no. 29.

I'm not sure of your total offhand, Glint, but I wish you well in your GF journey too 🙂

Morning and best wishes for the weekend . The weekend Mixer enters Striver country - Yihaaa Woohoo n Yabba Dabba Dooo . You have certainly cleared away the cobwebs and rattled a few cages . Well done Mixer for all the compassion and support you have unreservedly shown your fellow travellers .

One of my favourite records is ' My Way ' , originally written by Paul Anka it has been sung along to by most people on the planet . Frank Sinatras version was in the top 40 for 75 weeks . The versions by Elvis Presley and Robbie Williams are brilliant . Only mention it because I think the words of the chorus were written for you . Take it away Mixer ;

Yes there where times , I'm sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew

But through it all , when there was doubt

I ate it up and spit it out

I faced it all and I stood tall

And did it my way

Friends,

Thank you for your very kind messages as I hit 30 days GF - making me a Striver on the Guru challenge. Just where I want to be!

Abstainer - your posts have been fantastic, as always, and bang-on-the-button. Your observation of the importance of us all finding our feet and ploughing a furrow that suits us is inspired by your printing the lyrics of 'My Way'.

And these lyrics apply to us all - we are all entitled, having taking time to look into the myriad of options, to pick a route that suits us. Some people swear by GA, some by willpower alone, some find counselling immensely helpful, some find 'Stop Gambling' books their cup of tea. Whatever works, and no-one should judge whatever route we take - whatever works! Opinions are fine, we're still a free country (just!) and can voice a view.

On that point, I think, sadly, we are starting to live in an intolerent age where it's getting dangerous to profer any kind of personal opinion because there will always be someone out there who gets offended. In my opinion, the worst are the 'easily offended' who will go off like a firecracker at anything they don't like, and end up making such a fuss we have to pussyfoot aorund them. The 'easly offended' are the worst and I have no time for them; quite often they turn out to be hypocrites and should take a look at themselves before launching themselves at others.

My view is: we should be allowed to 'agree to disagree', so long as we're respectful. Each to one's own; that's what I say. I may not agree with your opinion or what you do, but I respect your right to have it and do it. "And so say all of us..."

So thank you Abstainer, your 'My Way' post really hit the nail on the end for me. I'm not into sycophancy but I am into sincerely and mean this: I think you're a terrific chap and would gladly share a beer with you. The ultimate accolade in my book!

One final point, reference your Flintstones reference in your post. Did you know, Abstainer, that the people of Saudi Arabia don't watch the Flintstones on telly, but the people of Abu Dhabi Do? *

(* Message to the 'Easily Offended': This one-liner is designed to solicit humour by way of a clever use of wordplay rather than any reflection or negative inference whatsoever on the countries or people of Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, or the scheduling of television programs which is a 'McGuffin', a device designed to provide a simple 'set up' for the main thrust of the joke . I could have used Kuwait, Dubai or any country in the region but settled for the original location as per the original joke previously published in the Sun on 11th Februrary 2016, part of a 'feel good story', telling of a father who told the joke to his toddler daughter who found it amusing. The story referenced a video of the same which was published on Youtube (over 500,000 views). It was very warmly received according to the comments (based on the large sample I have read). The joke was also published in the Metro newspaper, across multiple editions, on the same day.)

Back to the ranch, and I'm on Day 31. Thank you for your support and you all have my fullest support, too!

In this crazy world, we are focussed on what matters. A gambling-free life, day by day. Choosing life over misery. Whatever life throws at us - and it will - we will not be thrown off course. We are undaunted.
