No more self destruction for this man is gamble-free

A hopeful soul on a mission with truthful eyes that see ?

Aum the Gamcare Warrior has a heart that's beating strong

Heading home to glory with smiles and a happy song ?

When Angels said stop gambling he answered to the call

And now this reformed character is ready to rock and roll

Walking a straight & narrow path with eyes on the road ahead, I cherish every minute and sleep sound in my bed.

Long ago the gambling stopped and now my life is good but though I have my freedom I am not yet out the wood.

For sadly, I am an addict and will be for all time but so long as I don't have a bet than life will be just fine.

Disgusted to hear a cajoling voice on the radio encouraging listeners to ring a number for a pound for a chance to win a large sum of money.

The chances of winning are virtually nil but it is likely aimed at people who are already struggling financially and desperate.

The radio advertisement made it sound like the person ringing up would probably win the large sum and implied it would be negligent not to ring.

It is deceitful, cruel and fraudulent and I believe it should be more closely monitored by the gambling commission.

Great to read your post Scotty. It made me smile recalling the exploits of our "Gamcare Dance Troupe" ??☺️??

Hope life is treating you well my friend. Your courage and resilience has inspired me over the last couple of years. I was really pleased just now when reading on your profile that you are 619 days gamble-free.

Respectful best wishes Scotty

From Stephen

Hi Stephen

Having been here a while... I have observed your recovery from afar, and at times (hope you don't mind me saying) it was a tough ask to hang in there with you (particularly when you went through thay phase of starting new diaries each time you relapsed) - I lost count at about 275... ??

So, you can imagine the surprise, shock and overwhelming joy to log on after a long time and find that you are over a year gamble free. What a fantastic innings thus far sir.

Not sure where or how you found your mojo, but so happy for you ???? please hold onto it with dear life, you're so much better than gambling (I think I've told you this numerous times)

I also threw over some tough love and harsh criticisms at times, mostly borne out of frustration at witnessing such an intelligent, thoughtful soul fall foul of this horrible trapping time and time again. I apologise for this, thank you for proving me wrong.

Message to others... This guy has had an incredible journey. He is testament to the notion that this recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.

Keep going ✊

Great to see you posting again Signalman and congratulations on your excellent progress.

It was good of you to visit my diary and thank you for reminding me of the numerous failed attempts I had at stopping gambling. It is a good reality check for me because I do sometimes find myself becoming complacent.

After relapses I was convinced that my diary would never achieve success so constantly changed to a new one and sometimes changed my username in vain attempts to distance myself from my many failures.

Today it is 16 months since I last gambled and my life has changed for the better:

1/ Paid off the debt and have an income which is sufficient for me to live comfortably.

2/ Outlook on life has changed for the better. Now I feel contented, relaxed and at peace with myself.

3/ Moved home and am much happier where I now live.

4/ Some relationships with family and friends were damaged beyond repair but I can live with that and certainly won't let it drag me down.

5/Developing new interests and broadening my horizons.

6/ No worries and when in the company of new found friends I try to be supportive and understanding towards their hopes, fears and aspirations.

It saddens me every day when I think of the many lives being destroyed through gambling addiction and I look on with despair as celebrities join forces with gambling companies in promoting their filth without adequate warning of the risks involved.

There is now some light between myself and the insidious illness that is gambling addiction but the war is not won by any means.

With every protection in place I have safeguards that protect and warn me of any potential danger.

The battle is ongoing and I will never underestimate the issues that are at stake because it is quite literally a fight to the death.

People may laugh when I refer to myself as a Gamcare Warrior but that is how I see myself and I will bravely go forward, day by day, with hand on heart, a smile on my face and gratitude to the angels who are always there for me.

Thank you for posting Signalman. You are a wise and wonderful friend and your positive approach to recovery has always been a great source of inspiration to me.

Hello Diary.

Here in Hull ? sun shines bright and all the world looks sweet

Don't wear jeans with holes in em but still look cool and neat ?

Off for a stroll by the riverside with a stop for lunch on the way ?

Gamble-free is the way to be and that is the way I will stay ?

Heavens above ? cloudy today

Wherever is the Sun?

Skiving off in the Milky Way when work needs to be done!

She needs to be shedding her healing light and helping us to see

That gamble-free for you and me is the only way to be

Scattered clouds & vapour trails hover over Hull...

tasty fruit & porridge telling stomach it is full

Waters fill the Humber looking peaceful and serene...

not knowing where they flowing or where on earth they've been
