Note to self.

Well done, you have today dealt with a situation in a methodical and calm manner, and although not yet resolved, you have nothing to be worried about.

Be proud of yourself today

Your doing really well i'm glad your sticking to it as having a read through the forum it makes it so worth while for me to do it knowing i'm not the only one to post so in a way we help others without knowing .

Be proud of yourself every hour and even the smallest of loose change in your pocket let it be a reminder that you have it as your doing so well.

@Kramllewop, lots of life lessons can be transferable from recovery... in this case... take one day at a time!

Keep smiling 😉

An apology to you all

I said I would diarise how my first counselling session was and up until now have failed to do so.

My first session was mostly catching the counsellor up with my situation, she’s a lovely girl and had a real sense of humility about her, which made me feel at ease.

whilst catching her up on my situation it occurred to me that it wasn’t as upsetting for me as it was first time around during my assessment, I felt proud of myself that I was giving them a 53 day GF platform to build on.

At the end of my session I was given some homework to do for tomorrow, I originally wanted to do this with my wife, but sadly circumstances and life have prevented us from doing it together, I’ve completed it myself today, but was very surprised at how emotionally draining it was! They really do get you thinking about who you are and what you want to be!

It was a massive relief to me that there is also no limit on the amount of counselling I receive, just that it is reviewed on a 4 week basis.

I look forward to seeing what my counselling session tomorrow brings.

On another note I have realised over the last couple of days that I no longer feel any shame or embarrassment of who I am, so much so that I am considering a profile name switch to my real name,(it’s not the hardest to work out anyway!!)

I’ve no idea what has happened to make me come to this realisation, perhaps a time factor? Or comfort and acceptance perhaps? But I feel very confident that au am on the right track now, and that with the gamcare community around me I can continue my upward trajectory.

My name is Mark Powell, I was a gambling addict, I am now an addict in recovery.

Ohh Kram / Mark!

I have been waiting for this post! I am so glad you are finding the counselling helpful, the great news is that as much as they push you to “dig deep”... it’s all coming from the right place!

I am sorry you still haven’t managed to complete this task with your wife, but the time will come...!

I have to confess; I had worked out the reverse thing, by accident as it would happen, but either way; I am glad to hear this new confidence in you.

Bless you TOHOT, thank you. I know it wasn’t the hardest to work out, it was nice to reach a point where I no longer feel like I’m in hiding I guess?

Counselling will be of huge benefit for me, even to this point, just the experience has allowed my wife and I to get a better understanding and appreciation of each other, and the other day my wife herself said that she felt we were in a good place, and couldn’t remember the last time we argued.

Thank you both for your kind words.

i was worried about coming out, as it were, as I wasn’t too sure how well it would be received, but it is purely a mark of my confidence, and belief in the process I have entered into

Ladies

Thank you ever so much for your kind words on my diary today, my strength didn’t just come from thin air, it was gained from the likes of yourselves and the wider gamcare community, I am forever grateful that I have you both by my side for now and the future.
