Well, I've done it at last - came on to the Gamcare Netline this afternoon for a chat and felt better straight away. I have now installed Betfilter which was a hard decision as I wanted to continue with my online Lottery purchases (well in control) - but heigh ho, will have to remember to buy a paper ticket each week now. My online gambling has been going on for several years - bingo at first which I found useless and then went on to slots. My downfall! I self-exclude all the time but just Google for newer casino sites and off I go again. So now the madness has to stop, with your help. Come on Day 2......

Thanks Mikey, and good wishes to you too. I was going to say 'luck' but perhaps that's not a good word for some of us! Hope your Day 2 is going well - I celebrated my second day of freedom by going to the dentist and deliberated in the chair about what a brilliant set of gnashers I would now have if I'd spent some of my lost money on dental treatment!

Now I'm going to bite back, even if there are a few fillings on the way....

Hi Mikey - not too bad for me thanks, but sorry you found it tough going. I was also dreaming - playing a slot game which never paid out....just goes to prove how our brains become programmed to those reels - scary!

I also found myself last night entering lots more online competitions (free!) - I have won quite a lot in the past but those ******** slots took over. So now I am determined to get my 'buzz' from a healthier source, and win some nice things into the bargain!

Lots of good wishes for your Day 3....

Hi baggins,

(I thought I'd intro with a joke about the 'precioussss', but I've decided its too obvious).

Well done for taking on those first couple of days, I think installing betfilter is certainly a good idea. Finding a different way to fill your time away from gambling is definitely a positive step too, and if you pick up a few prizes along the way then its all good.

Keep up the good work,

Ryan

Many thanks Ryan. I think your allusion to the 'Preciouss' is very apt - I am addicted to the old BBC radio version of "The Lord of the Rings" circa 1981 with dear old Peter Woodthorpe as Gollum - he's brilliant. I think I'll take the analogy of poor old Bilbo struggling with the ring about his neck to my current struggles - determined to throw my accursed habit into the fires of Mordor! Stay happy.

Day 3 - decided to have a look at my online bank statement; it certainly brought home to me how much money I have wasted just this month, let alone in the last year or so.

Have stopped beating myself up about my problem. And I've won a beanie hat - so things are looking up!

Well, a win is a win, and every day without gambling is another small victory, certainly for me anyway.

I also love the BBC dramatizations of the LOTR books, great stuff! Have them on a CD boxset and they get listened to on long journeys in the car.

Feel free to consider us your fellowship in this particular quest, I've found there's a great community and lots of support on here in dealing with gambling and other issues.

Ryan

Day 4 - a good day spent with small grandchildren and now picking Play-Doh off my clothes. Glad to report that I've had no urges to waste my money or time - long may this feeling last!
