Thanks. I think I have earned myself a nice cup of tea and some biscuits. Tomorrow can only get better.

So, on to day 4...

Feeling calmer today and work shouldn't be as stressful. I did however just make the mistake of reading about the young lad who won £13 million on online slots last week. Not a good idea.

The fact of the matter is that I have more chance of going out today and being killed by a bus than ever winning huge money on those things. The only way that I can achieve my dreams is by working hard for them and that does not involve gambling.

I couldn't agree more. I decided to go out for lunch with my mate to get away from the office for a while and take my mind off of gambling. Seems to have worked. I can only hope that it will get easier as time goes on and it starts to feel more natural to not be gambling again. I am pleased to be on day 4 which is the longest I have gone for quite a while. Coming on here when I get the urge to gamble seems to be helping too. Just have to keep it up.

Hi Brum,

Taking ourselves away from the environment that we gambled in, in my experience certainly takes all gambling thoughts away.

Did you deliberately go into the bookies to test yourself, (to face it dead on so to speak) ? But you did win on both times, more than you realise, can understand you wanting to face it, but am pleased you had your lunch elsewhere today, that addiction is crafty it will let you win for a while (by abstaining) then it will hit you from nowhere.

You are doing just fine Brum, small, steps forward everyday, and again I say take everything one day at a time, there is no rush,

Don't think too far ahead, honestly one day at a time is alone is fine at this early stage.

Push out the negatives and concentrate on positives, and hey a big positive today you are on 4 days of actually winning.

Hi Suzanne,

It wasn't me that had lunch in the bookies, I did see that on another thread though.

I very rarely visit a bookies to be honest, online slots were my problem. Glad to have got through day 4 with very few temptations. Looking forward to getting through day 5 tomorrow!

Thanks Suzanne,

No urges yet this morning. Hopefully that can continue throughout the day. I don't know if other people have experienced this when they first give up gambling but I haven't slept too well for the last few days and have had some very vivid dreams. The first night the dreams mainly involved online slot machines. I'm sure it will get easier as time goes on.

Thanks Pol. Today is day 5 and so far has been easier than the previous 4. Can't wait to clear the debts and then start to save, something which I have never really bothered to do before.

Day 5 completed. Had a lovely evening at the theatre with my wife and daughter after a relatively stress free and temptation free day. On to day 6 tomorrow.

Thanks GT. The encouragement on this site really helps. I'm sure when the baby arrives it will give me an even bigger reason to stay on track. Today is day 6 of my new life.

Just a quick update before bed. Today has been another gamble free day.

I have just added up my debts again and realised that I missed off a card from my previous calculations. My total debt is actually £5133.05 after I just paid off another £100.

It's quite scary how you can lose track of how much money you have gambled away so easily. Thankfully though I do not intend to ever find myself in that position again. I am winning every day by not gambling and I will do my best to clear my debt through hard work with my business over the coming months.

Day 7 today. Played football this morning for my Sunday league team which helped keep my mind off gambling. Got a quiet afternoon now but think I'm going to watch some football on tv to occupy my mind.

It is gradually getting easier as the day goes by but I know that I can't be complacent.

I have now done a whole week with no gambling. I am very pleased with myself and I am still finding it easier day by day. I haven't had the urge to gamble at all today, although work has kept me pretty busy. I am looking forward to a brighter future with my new baby that is on the way around Christmas. Not gambling will ensure that my debts are paid off and hopefully I should be debt free early in the new year.
