I still have a gambling addiction. But I have became addicted to helping young men/women  with their mental health battle. A lot of which is gambling related. I am no expert and by no means qualified. But just by telling my story and showing that it can get better, no matter how far down the rabbit hole you have went. I have found purpose. Anyonymously of course. For me to get where I am today, was knowing I am not alone in this fight. Proud of myself and every single person who has beaten the addiction  or still fighting. Stay strong!

Hi don,

I am guessing that you have thrown yourself into helping people and putting you’re own addictive gambler behaviour behind you. Please don’t get complacent and remember to build up barriers away from gambling but know that it’s with you for life.

personally I reenforce my behaviour by replying to posts like yourself which helps a lot and I hope you find other ways to help people also. If you get the chance it’s also about self improvement too and bettering other sides of your life you otherwise wouldn’t in the grip of the addiction.

personally myself I am sliding away from self improvement at the moment due to mental health reasons but know my core goals are well away from the addiction itself. I am looking forward to going swimming again and hopefully getting more independence for myself and retaining it also.

I hope this is of some help or perspective and to keep on helping others, you’re doing great

just for today I will not gamble!

I found this was the case for myself too - knowing I could help others, whether that be gambling or just general things in life, serves as a really nice feeling that can become addictive.

Keep it up

I feel atm like trying to help others is helping me. And yea I understand the key is to help Myself in the long run. But for now I have found a way to channel my fears and worries into something positive that may help other people. The biggest thing I took from this forum was the feeling that I am not alone. And I am enjoying making others know that too
