Did you know your lived experience could help others? Becoming a Peer Support Volunteer is a way to give back and support others in recovery.
All the support is over email, on our forum or chatroom, so it is flexible and can work with the availability you have. To find the application and role details - check out our ‘Join us as an Online Peer Supporter’ page.
Don’t just take it from us, read what our volunteers have to say about why they do the role and what it means to them:
“Being a volunteer has been so rewarding. The feeling that I could give back to others is very fulfilling. Particularly affected others have really felt understood by me. When you are going through harm, it's the loneliest place in the world. Volunteers make a difference for sure.”
“That you also get to share your own lived experience, as well as that of your peer's, has helped me come to terms with my damaging actions in the past and this has ultimately helped maintain my own recovery.”
“For me the positive mental reward is massive and I feel great about the possibility of changing addiction so services users ,families and love ones can get back a healthy life. Weekly and monthly you can see change and I helped orchestrate that with GamCare.”
“Previously I was missing a sense of purpose in life and by volunteering my support to others who have experienced the harm that gambling brings , it has made a tremendous difference.”
Thinking about volunteering with us, but have some questions, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us at Volunteer@gamcare.org.uk
