Although there can be a lot of positives during this time of year, the Christmas period can also bring new and specific challenges to those experiencing or recovering from gambling harms. Whether you celebrate it or not, the festive season can bring additional pressures, such as;

  • Worry around finances, where gift giving, socialising, and different pay days can have a big impact.
  • There can be an additional strain on relationships, be that with partners, friends or family.
  • As well as disrupted routines, opportunities for boredom, and difficulty in accessing some of the support and activities you might usually rely on.

One of our helpline managers has provided some useful tips for the festive season, especially around navigating an early pay day, receiving certain gifts such as new devices, cash or scratch cards, as well as the general pressures of this time of year. You can read about their tips on being mindful and more here.

What is one challenge you face, and how do you manage it?

We would love to hear your own advice and tips about this time of year, of small things that work for you, and could help others too.
