My partner of two years walked out in January after admitting he was an addictive gambler.

He’s not addresssing the issues & we’ve had very little contact. Any contact has involved mind games, manipulation & gaslighting. He remains very much in denial.

I have bags of his belongings at my house, where we lived todather. I have tried many times to arrange to get these back to him.

I love him. I wish him well but I cannot live in limbo any longer. Any repocussions are nothing to do with me. He has gone out of his way to push me to make the choice to move on.

This is a brave step for me. One I hope will have a positive out, not just for me.

Hi blue wings. It's a great shame when you see someone you love just walk away without asking for help. Unfortunately addicts often go from one addiction to another. Often alcohol fuels the gambling. I think they have a self destruct button. All 'using' is hiding from their demons. It sounds like you've safeguarded yourself and you have to. Did the counselling help? I finished mine on Friday. I feel calmer.

Hi Merrygoround.

The counselling has been great. I’m learning not to take it personally, not to feel guilty & be ok with putting myself first.

I dropped the remained of his things off today. Just knocked on the door, left the bags & walked away. As I drove off I saw his Dad come out complaining like it was such hardship to have to lift the bags in the house. His Dad is also a CHA. It just made me realise i’m doing the right thing for myself.

Of course I still love the person I thought he was but he’s not that person. He lied to me for years, he has no intention to stop, he’s done some dreadful things since he left & it was just causing my heartache to have his things in the house.

I hope there is a wake up call but i’m glad to be safely away from it right now.
