Thank you so much for this advice, it really helps. My son has arranged for counselling. That's not to say he accessed any yet but it is a first step.. This has come out of the blue and I am still reeling. Gamcare has been a huge help but reading some of the blogs is terrifying as so many people seem unable to stop and relapse over and over. I have taken one piece of advice and that is to go slow with him and let him get to the place where he realises he cannot do this alone.. We tried to get him to hand over his cards, we have some but suspect he has held others back.. I am distraught at the idea he is still lying to me and I am not entirely sure we know the extent of his debt. At the moment we are trying to preserve his capacity to work as he has a good job albeit stressful which includes a nice car. Thank you for responding to my messages. I can't tell you how much it helps that someone is listening to me. I have to put a face on to my family and it is so hard..
