I am working to support a relative who has gambled all savings away. Recently they used a loan shark and I had to bail them out for their own safety and my piece of mind.
I have access to their bank account and transfer money out as quickly as possible but when there’s no cash and they get into a worry they find money elsewhere
what can I do or should I be doing? Am not a gambler myself so don’t know the urges and/or worries that are being faced
Hi 147,

I can appreciate how difficult of a situation this must be for you. It can be really difficult supporting someone close to you when you aren't too sure how best to support them.
Â
Have you been in contact with us at all for some support and advice around this? You can contact us via telephone 0808 8020 133, live chat, WhatsApp and Facebook for confidential support not only for your relative, but also for yourself.Â
As you've mentioned your relative was using loan sharks previously, I did want to make you aware that you can report this to StopLoanSharks https://www.stoploansharks.co.uk/  Tel: 0300 555 2222 and they can support you both through this.

How do you know there are loan sharks involved? Have you spoken to them?
As far as helping, what is the gambler doing to help themselves?
Chris.
Affected by gambling?
