my husband is a gambling addict even spending money we don't have I cant kk bailing him out how can I help him
Hi - have also tried to help a family member so know what you are going through.
First of all you have done the right thing coming on here. It would be a good thing if you could ring the counsellors on here who will listen to you and give you some good information and advice i.e. emotional support, finance advice, self exclusion from gambling sites, shops etc. Try and find out as much as you can about gambling addiction and what can be done before approaching your husband about tackling the problem. If you read the posts on here you will see that people can be helped but half the battle is getting them to admit they have a problem and then getting them to agree to try and get help. The counsellors on here will advise you on things like that. It is very much a case of looking after your own life, health and finances as well as helping him and you have made a good start today and you will start to feel better for talking things through with people.
Good luck.
Hi Ec, welcome to the forum 🙂
The best way to help him is to help you! Bailing out a gambling addict is just a green light for us to gamble more so you need to arm yourself with as much information as possible so that you can point him in the right direction when he is ready to get help. The best thing to do will be to ring the helpline & speak to an advisor. They will be able to set you in the right direction for support for you.
Unfortunately, this isn't something you will be able to fix. He needs to get help & to work hard @ stopping & getting him to a GA meeting would be a very good start.
Having a look @ some of the other Friends & Family threads may help you make sense of some of your feelings.
Sorry I couldn't be more positive. If you post a bit more information, we will be able to post more specific advice. But I reiterate, you must look after you 1st - ODAAT
