Hi, im not sure what im doing as im rubbish with technology. But 2 dsys sgo my world fell apart when i found my husband had gambled thousands of pounds over the last few months. I feel sick, scared and well really sad to be honest. I am supporting him whilst he gets help and Im also getting support. But i feel totally lost today. Sorting the bank out etc. Now have to forget dreams of retirement. Â
Hi LizzyMÂ
Welcome to the forum and well done on posting. I know it can be really upsetting and frustrating and people often feel lost in this situation, but you are never alone and there's always hope .Â
It can feel quite a burden to take that responsibility on to support him emotionally and looking after finances at this time , the important thing is to use all of your energy on your own self care and wellbeing.Â
Please feel free to contact the GamCare Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or Netline to explore the additional support available to you. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you would like to talk to one of the GamCare HelpLine advisers.Â
Take careÂ

Hi Lizzy,
On the plus side you now know the truth. I know its painful and difficult to deal with but it is better than living a lie. Now that the genie is out of the bottle you can discover what its like dealing with this situation and for that you will need as much support as possible so you have made a good start by coming here and asking for help. I know the financial side of things seem overwhelming at this moment but it will get better once you don't bury the head in the sand like I used to do.
When you read through a lot of posts on here you see a lot of people just want their partners to stop gambling and want them to get help, get support etc etc but you quickly realise that you simply cannot control another persons actions, but you can control your own. My advice would be to go to a GamAnon meeting (they have virtual meetings which you should be able to link to if you google their website). At one of those meetings you will hear from people who are on the same path as yourself and some will be a lot further down the path so you will get nuggets of wisdom from listening to them.
Again well done for not suffering in silence as addiction loves that, where we pretend all is ok yet behind closed doors the world is falling apart. Keep posting and sharing updates or asking any question you may have.Â
