Hi everyone, I have successfully completed day 1, which is great and I think I'm on the right footing thus far to kick this for good.

One of the most difficult things I have found is psychologically getting over the debt I'm in and I think with a lot of us it truly weighs us down and one of our reasons for relapse is a quick fix to try to recover our losses because the debt seems unreal and impossible to overcome.

I have decided to flip it the other way and make my abstinence from gambling as a winning money strategy. By doing it I am also getting the warm fuzzy feeling of winning at the end of the day when considering my debt rather than immense sadness.

I have worked out it will take approximately 1000 days to pay of my debt. That seems so long but each day of abstinence now equates to 0.1% of my total.

So yesterday, by going gamble free I earned 0.1% winnings for the day and today I'll build up to 0.2% if I don't bet. It doesn't seem like a lot but actually if I gambled and didn't lose a penny and made a tiny profit I would have been so happy to sleep that night knowing I hasn't lost all my money. So this feeling of a 0.1% winning gives me a lovely feeling I have won some of my debt back without placing a bet and I have the opportunity to expand my investment to 0.2% today! It's a win win situation. I feel like I can get on an incredible winning streak by not gambling.

And just like at the bookies, you don't make withdrawals every day but every time I reach the 3% mark (30 days of abstinence), and pay day comes (every month), I'm making a 3% withdrawal of my gamble free winnings to win back my debt.

Does that make any sense? 🙂

Either way yesterday I made a great solid 0.1% financial investment and I'm looking forward to winning more money today by not gambling 🙂

I like your concept a lot. It makes sense and is a good way of looking at it. I think I might look back over my bank statments (hard thing to do but should help) - and then for a month not gamble and put 50% of my usual spends into my savings account each day and see it build up without having wasted lots of time.

Genuinely it feels like you have made a win each day! If we went on a small winning streak by gambling (just like we all used to dream about!), just imagine we go on a winning streak without gambling.

Stick a few pounds in the savings account each day and you are on an unstoppable win streak, imagine you are the bookie paying into your savings account 🙂 today you won a small amount by not gambling and it builds up to a BIG win of realising gambling is so awful compared to winning at life and money management.

I'm truly looking forward to winning each day now.

Truly, every day that you don't have a bet, you are winning.

1000 days may seem a long way off, but if you can think of it in terms of "just for today I will not gamble", the days will pass, and you will be surprised how quickly they can once you have a bit of abstinence time up.

As for chasing losses, that is a big nightmare for CGs. I like your idea re 'winning money strategy'. I hope it works for you.

Best wishes

Most people start out thinking gambling is "easy money" when we would all be a lot better off if we had never started!
