Hello Janbehonest

Welcome to the forum.

This site helps many people - it can help you too. Plenty of ways to gain help and support. Well done for recognizing that gambling has become a problem and posting.

Many different ways to gamble and lots of ways to help you stop. It would be good to know about what type of gambling you're having problems with; this will enable people to give advice, experience and support accordingly.

Best wishes

Glint

Hi Janbehonest and welcome.

Well done on recognising you have a problem with gambling, it's never too late! There is a guy at my GA meetings who quit gambling for the first time when he was in his early 60's and 5 years later is still in recovery and happier than ever! The motivation for a better life can be enough to start us off.

Have you began to put blocks in place like self-exclusion etc?

Hi Janbehonest,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for your post.

Now that you’ve broken the ice, it’s perhaps time to start looking into a bit more detail of the type of gambling you do, and how long you’ve been gambling. Also, it’s good to know what made you start gambling in the first place.

Answers to the above questions would enable us to offer you more and appropriate advice to suit your gambling needs.

I’d also like to make you aware that gambling is difficult to try to stop it by yourself; most people need professional help to overcome it. Thus it’s a step in the right direction when you contacted us.

Gamcare is ready to help and support you every step of the way, and that is if you follow the advice that we offer you.

We can also sign-post you to other charitable organisations if we think you’d benefit from their services, and can also refer you to 12 sessions of free counselling, if that would help you to overcome your problematic gambling.

Also, I’m encouraging you to continue to post into the forum, so fellow forum members can also offer you their support; they are very good in doing that. That would make you realise that you’re not alone, and that there’s no need to suffer in isolation or secrecy.

I suggest that you contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers, so as to get the further help and support that you need.

Thanks once again for your post, and pls. keep posting.

Best wishes,

Beatrice
