Finding it hard to move past the money i've lost. Large chunk was savings which is all gone.
Having to work 6 days a week to earn money to pay back. Hard not to think about the money and plans i was hoping to do dissapearing.
Any advice for moving past this??
Keep telling myself if i hadn't lost now wouldve somepoint down the line, just hope its a turning point and i can change my life and start enjoying it more, be a better person to family and friends.
Hi, I feel the same every single time I lose. I start to think about how I could have spent that money. We've both got to simply forget about what is lost and realise that now is the point that we stop gambling. If you get tempted to gamble think about the money you could lose, how else could you use that money? Think about how you'd feel if you lost that money. I have also just started to think about how long I'd have to work to earn that money back. Where is it that you currently gamble, online, bookies?
It is only today that I've joined here, but i'm really determined to stop. I am going to take it day by day, once I've made it a week then i'll go for two weeks then a month and so on. I am going to treat myself at each point throughout it, once I hit a week i'll treat my dad to a meal, once I hit two, maybe I'll buy myself some new clothes or something. May be worth trying the same thing, you've got an incentive to keep going. You can get past this mate.
In order to get past the money you have lost, you must focus on the money you will lose if you try getting it back. This was a life lesson, that cost you XXXXXXX dollars. How much more do you want to contribute to that life lesson, will depend on how much more money you want to lose chasing them.
On a brighter note, everyone on this planet will leave with $0 dollars when they die. From the richest billionare to the homeless person in the street.
Learn to forgive yourself, and be less harsh on yourself. That is how you will get by.
I am hoping for your success.
Regards,
AM
Thanks @thatitguy@Pure_Justice you make some great points. Don't want to lose anymore money chasing false dreams, all money i get now will be through my own hard work which is much more rewarding than any bet. Trying to forgive myself, will be a long road but forget the long term will focus on short-term. Each week, and as suggested have booked a weekend away after a month gambling free so extra incentive to keep going and reward myself i know i can do it and thats a positive.
Foget the losses, today is Day 1.
If you have money to gamble, then you need to look at moving that money out of the way as soon as possible.
I would assume you have no debt as you mention savings, but I know some people, have pseudo savings, where they say oh I have £2k saved, but still have similar or more outstanding on cards and loan and paying interest.
If you have debt, get those credit cards closed down and/or if you have a great credit rating, then look to get the debt shifted to 0% interest card/s, but then also cut those card/s up, so you can't use them. On payday, immediately put money towards the debt. If you have a loan or loans, see about overpaying it.
If you have no debt, then get a savings account that doesn't allow instant withdrawals and has no cards to get the money out. Once you get paid, immediately put a certain amount into the savings.
When I started, I had a couple of loans and 3 credit cards, about £15 - 18k in debt.
I got a budget going where i looked at all my monthly outgoings including debt. I could then see how much I could afford to pay towards the debt and still leave myself enough to live on, but not enough to gamble with (or so I thought). If I was too gamble, I would have to cut out something else, because I had no overdraft or cards to fall back on.
On payday, I immediately first thing on that day, put money towards my debt, I was lucky enough to get a 0% interest credit card and started to overpay the loans. After the first month of doing that and not gambling, it was obvious that I had been gambling more money than I thought and so I could pay even more towards the debt.
Once one of my debts was paid, I then put more towards the other debts.
I then half way through got a savings account, with no card and no easy withdrawal of money. I started to put some into the savings account, while continuing to pay a lot towards the debt. It was my way of seeing progress on saving as well as debt clearance.
Eventually I became debt free and had savings, which I continue to grow to this day.
Ultimately it takes a small amount of time to close down any cards and get a no quick and easy withdrawal savings account open. A small amount of time to work out incomings and outgoings.
Once done, it just 2 - 5 minutes of willpower on payday, to put that gambling money out of reach for a whole month, by doing a bit of debt clearing and/or transferring into savings.
Those were excellent ideas and steps taken Steve!
When you give up not only do you stop the losses but you stop the lies and you also regain time.
We are all on this planet for a limited period that`s all we have time. It`s how you fill it up that maps your life.
Forget about the money it`s gone you have the rest of your life to make your life good.
Gambling and Money are the things that bring regrets , guilt and letting yourself and other people down.
The thought in your mind of the money gone is I want it back - but ask yourself this what would you do if you actually won? and the answer is keep on gambling and because the odds are always against you , you would eventually get back in the hole you are in now.
Good luck in your fight
look forward and not back.
