I want to learn more about gambling and problem gamblers,
especially why you enjoy gambling and what most gamblers want

This is an open forum and there are hundreds of stories on here...all from problem gamblers. Take the time to read through them and you will see that all stories are very similar. It usually starts out fairly innocently...a bit of fun...the chance of winning money...lonliness, boredom, escapism, but soon turns to a compulsion. Some wins...some losses and the devestation of losing leads to chasing those losses. Its the chasing that is the real crux. Its an addiction plain and simple...just like any other addiction. A dopamine release...and to recreate that dopamine hit...you gotta do it more and more and take bigger risks each time. There is nothing special or different about gambling addicts verses any other type of addict...except that when the gambling addict stops, there is usually finanical ruin that takes years to sort out. Not usually the case for an alcoholic for example.
