Hello

I have joined this before but did not help but i am back now as i need to try something before i do something drastic. I am 28 and have gambling debts of £7500.00. I have a loving GF and a great family who do not know about this debt or my problems. I feel like i am depressed and have contemplating hurting myself more and more recently. I just never seem to be able to stop gambling and i really need help. I have installed BetFilter but i can even finds way around this. I cannot even watch a football match or sporting event now without having to bet on it, and cringing everytime there is a corner when i havent bet on it 🙁 I cannot speak to my GF or family so this is why i am here today. I just want to be able to stop gambling, start clearing my debts and be happy again, as otherwise i will end up killing myself. I have no savings to clear my debts and i live paycheck to paycheck, even when i am not gambling.

Hurting all over.

Hi Yazoo45, I'm 30 have a loving wife and a great family who do not know about my debt or my problems. I have around 10K of debt racked up over past 2 years.

In the past 2 months I've managed to stop gambling and have even started counselling through gamcare. I'd advise you to get in touch with gamcare and arrange an assessment - this can even be done online via video. Also, this forum is a godsend. Lots of great people and advice, you just need to listen to them. They've all been where you are now.

On the financial front you'd probably be surprised at how much you've been gambling - I knew it was alot but thought mostly on credit cards not from my actual monthly budget - but now realise it was another £200-300 a month that I could afford to lose with the trips to bookies/arcades etc inbetween my online sessions almost everyday.

It's not easy but if you give it your all and commit to it the same way you've been committed to your gambling habit then you can do it mate.

Hi Yazoo, you need to contact Gamcare by phone ASAP or the Samaritans straight away. You can stop gambling, there are on here people who have been extremely addicated to gambling and come out the other side and been happy again. It takes tremendous willpower (I know), but it can be done. You are 28, 40 years of work to clear that debt, it is defo possible to clear that. On here someone said ' money comes and money goes' never a better statement. Ring the helpline - Paul

Hi Yazoo, some great advice there from tommy and lost my life.

So many of us have been there, got the t-shirt, but many of us, are now dealing with it, or have dealt with it in the past, it most definitely can be done.

Please stick around and post/read, so much great support and advice here, to get you on your gamble free journey.

Hello Yazoo

Sorry you feel there may be no option but to end your life. As Steve and others have said, people can and do recover from compulsive gambling. There are options to help you. As tommy said, we offer free confidential counselling. And there are expert debt helplines who can let you know your options to deal with the debt.

As lost my life said, money comes and goes. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. If you are feeling overwhelmed by suicidal feelings, please do get support. The Samaritans on 116 123 is one option. You could also talk to your GP because you may be depressed.

And please, do call us on the GamCare helpline 0808 8020 133, or if you prefer on the Netline. We can help you work it through and put you in touch with options to help you.

Best wishes

Forum Admin.
