I have been with my partner 9 years, we have 2 children and a home together.Â
he has gambled ever since I have known him however it has got so bad recently. Every single month he manages to gamble nearly 1000. 2 months ago we opened a joint account with only his wages going in so I could over see what he was doing. He has 1 month where he didn’t spend a penny. How we this month he has spent his whole wages in 2 days. No bills have been paid. It’s the 6 weeks holidays and after I have paid the rent and main bills we have barely any money left over.Â
I love this man with my whole heart and we get on so so well, I just can’t deal with this anymore. He lies and will look at me in the face and lie lie lie. I know he doesn’t mean it ans I can tell his mental health is struggling so much due to this. I worry if I leave him what will he do but I can’t keep carrying on like this. I feel it’s the guilt incase he does something silly I would never forgive myself but i feel like we are not living just surviving. I we both work full time have good jobs and a steady income but we are getting in more and more debt. He refuses to go to any groups as has tried and said it doesn’t help him.Â
im just completely at a loss and gutted once again I have to pick up the pieces. Any support would be so appreciated.Â
Hi @Pinky
I'm sorry to hear that you're so worried about your partner and also that you are struggling financially.Â
We are here to support you on our Helpline (0808 8020 133), if you would like to talk to an adviser. Sometimes it helps to talk things through, and we can also help with identifying support that you and your partner might find beneficial.
If you are worried at any time that your partner may be suicidal, please don't hesitate to get some medical support for him. You can do this by contacting the GP, or 111/999 if needed.Â
Kind regards,
Susan
