Better you ask? Of course it gets better. There's no better feeling and I can tell you why.

I stopped gambling in January and I was £7,000 in debt, I got this down to £3,000 and in the small amount of time I managed to save over £2,000 which was the most I saved in a long time due to my addiction.

I felt happier than ever knowing that the debts were going down and my savings were going up, I had plans of doing my driving test and getting a car...

But then I relapsed a month ago and lost £3,000 in that time and missed numerous repayments, the stress came back, the depression, the anger and I wish I never relapsed, I started chasing my losses every week of getting paid and that made it worse.

I'm back to going gamble free again now and starting to repay my debts as I know in a small 4-6 months you can clear most of the debt if you grind overtime at work and stay dedicated, create an excel document with all the dates, payments and amount you need to pay each week and you'll be straight on the right track.

It gets better trust me, much better, I've felt the feeling and also the feeling of a relapse after many months of being clean and you don't want to feel the pain of a relapse after doing so well.

Hi, when I stopped I owed £27K on credit cards. I contacted Stepchange who have been amazing putting me on a debt management plan and contacting all my creditors who stopped adding interest to my debts. I pay a regular amount each month that Stepchange worked out for me and it has taken the stress of the debt away. This was 3 years ago and I'm about 50% through the debt but it's so much better.

The only down side is I have defaults on my credit record for 6 years but as I'm over 60 with no mortgage do not need to apply for credit anymore so doesn't really affect me now

All the best
