First Day Being Honest

Hi, today is the first day of being honest with myself and family. I haven’t gambled for months, only due to no access to money. I had payday loans and log book loans that I hadn’t paid for months, and finally yesterday they came to repo my car, along with witch my wife found out I had been gambling again. The last time was about 2 years ago and racked up £5k of dept which we got a second mortgage to pay off, this time it’s more like £12k with around 15 lenders with massive interest rates, none of which I have paid for ages. I have buried my head in the sand, not thinking that I actually have a gambling problem, just debts because of gambling (hope that makes sense). Today I told my parents which for my family is a massive step. I have hit my rock bottom and want to rebuild my life. My wife understands but scared about our future, we are going for an IVA to help payments. I just don’t want to ever put her or my son in this position again. I want out of the gambling cycle. I hope to talk and learn from others on here. Strength in numbers.

Hello Foster

Well done for coming clean. It's really difficult to speak to loved ones about this gambling addiction of ours but it's a huge step in the right direction.

Best thing you can do now is to let your wife handling your money.

All the best

Best of luck Foster. I just joined myself yesterday and already feel more supported. I've only been gambling for 6 months and have lost 10 k already but I'm hoping for a new start. From rock bottom the only way is up. . Look after yourself

Foster,

Good first step. You'll no doubt feel good for a short while, the relief of being 'outed' and great you are reaching out for help, just please dont be complacent with that - you didn't confess through choice, you had to, your car was taken.

Now that bit is done and you know there are some big choices you can and need to make. Credit reports set up, alerts to your wife. 100% openness, transparency and action.

best wishes on the challenge ahead - it's not one i find easy. I hope the finances can be organised in a mangeable way foryou,

take care
