I have just joined this forum and am really really terrified by the way my online gambling has become out of control. I had a couple of big wins and then started to lose, and trying to win back my losses led to even more losses and now I am in dire financial straits. I am £2000 in arrears with my mortgage and owe family members about £1500 in total - they don't know about my problem, they just think I am struggling because I have gone through a divorce and am struggling on one income with two kids. I am totally despairing and just don't know what to do. I must gave wasted so much money, but still I keep going back in the hope of winning enough to get out of the mess I'm in. I haven't yet read any other posts but will do so now. Sorry for the long post.

Hi. Welcome and well done for posting.

You are in the trap a lot of people find themselves in. We want to stop but the need to win back our losses drives us on. You need to break that cycle. I think you need some advice urgently particularly in regards to your mortgage. Please consider contacting the Gamcare helpline. You don't have to do this alone.

If there is anyone you know who you can confide in, please do it. I know its hard admitting your problems but it's an essential thing to do.

100% agree with the last post. Stop the cycle now. This is not irreversible but you need a bit of help from close friends or family to get through this. Reading some posts should make you realise it could've worse ( I'm sure this is bad enough for you). Stop now and put this whole thing behind you.... You can do it, chasing loses is how many of us end up with a problem. Make sure yours stops here. Good luck and remember you are never alone. X

Thanks for your comments. I feel better just having posted and read through the posts on here. I really don't think I can tell family because I only have my two daughters, but I am going to ring the helpline right now.

Hi Janey,

Sorry to hear about your situation , your gambling sounds like mine and after a lot of upset I turn to gambling I suspect your gambling is the same after the divorce.

Do not dispear , help is at hand via gamcare.

Also have you blocked gambling access on your phones and computers ? if you are serious about stopping also self exclude from the bookies you use that way you dont have the ability to gamble.

If I can offer any advise let me know.

John xx

What's happened has happened, this is the time now to start getting yourself back on track.

Forget the money it's gone and is now in the past.

It's time to focus on moving forward and each day you don't gamble is a day towards repairing your situation.

Hi, just dropping in to welcome you to recovery & echo all of the above! You have to draw a line now, where you are @ & figure out a way to move forwards! The money has gone & the more determined you are to win it back, the more trouble you will find yourself in! I hope the phonecall has given you a little bit of light...This is a long, difficult journey but one that none of us regret! You owe this to yourself...It's hard enough going through what you have done & looking after children without the added disappointment that gambling brings you! Let go of the past & just for today, choose 'No' (tomorrow will just be another today)! You can do this - ODAAT
