As James says please get help. Gambling addiction is a horrible disease but it can be fought. Life will get better for you
Hello Polly,
It’s good that you slept well and feeling a bit better in yourself. It’s also a great start that you’ve found this forum and admitted to yourself that you’ve fallen prey to this very insidious addiction. It will also be good that you’ve found a lot of like minded people who can not only feel your pain but also facing up to there pain. I do agree with the other two posters, there is help out there, seek it and don’t try and do it by yourself. It’s also good that you’ve got a day off, but don’t isolate, confide in friends / family / Dr, anyone. There was a lot of ‘ goods ‘ there
Gamcare offers free counselling, there’s also superb peer support from the likes of gamblers anonymous. Only you can make them strides and reach out for the help out there. Keep close to this forum and use to download your thoughts. We are sociable creatures, so don’t isolate. We’re human, we make mistakes, so don’t forget that.
Wishing you well
Dear Polly, as the previous people have said , get help. You can get over this feeling of self loathing and despair. Life is so precious and there are people around you that love and will support you. They may be angry and shocked at first but they will help you. Gambling has hurt you enough and claimed many lives, please don’t let it do this to you so fight back. Bucket of strength to you, read stories on here for inspiration x x
Hello Polly
I'm sorry to read that you were feeling so bad last night that you felt suicidal. Thank you for checking back in this morning. It's good you got some sleep. You don't mention gambling but I'm assuming that's why you're here so I just want to assure you that there is support for gambling problems, and there is hope for recovery.
It's really important that you get immediate help if you're feeling suicidal. This forum is around 24/7 but it can't provide immediate crisis help if you're suicidal. The Samaritans are available 24/7 on the number James mentioned above, 116 123. It's a free number which you can call even if you have no credit. Here's what the Samaritans say about the cost of calling their number:
"This number is free to call from both landlines and mobiles, including pay-as-you-go mobiles. You do not need to have any credit or call allowance on your plan to call 116 123."
You can find out more about the Samaritans and how to contact them here: https://www.samaritans.org/how-we-can-help-you/contact-us
It would also be an idea to contact your GP and talk to him or her about your suicidal feelings.
The GamCare helpline is also free to call and available 8am till midnight on 0808 8020 133. You can also chat 1:1 with an adviser on our NetLine. As Volcano said there are lots of options out there to help you. We might be able to offer you free counselling, and we can tell you about practical steps you can take to keep gambling under control. We can tell you who to contact about problems that your gambling might be causing you, and we can tell you about other sources of support for problem gambling as well, like Gamblers Anonymous and more.
You've got a day off work today - why not use today to get some support in place and really get your recovery underway?
Do please post back and tell us how you are,
Best wishes,
Deirdre

Hello again Polly,
Understandable the devastation you must be feeling. What with everything and now being a slave to the gambling. It’s a trait of our addiction to stick our head in the sand, so try and breathe and take things one step at a time. Talk to the landlord and tell them that this month your struggling with your rent, it happens. Then seek help that’s out there, there’s stuff you need to process and people out there who can help. Keep talking, things will get better.
