Sorry have just read a few people's posts just realised I probably didn't introduce myself very well. I recently starting gambling about 6 months ago ... slot machines. Last night lost my last penny don't have money for diesel, food, nothing. I was feeling at rock bottom but reading some of your posts makes me think it could be worse. I know mine has been brought out by stress and isolation. I got married last year I'm 46 he's not in the country but caused major problems in family let's just say they blank me. Starting new job in 2 wГЁeks so all has been getting on top of me. To date have lost 10 thousand ...enough is enough today I start to do something or else I'll crack up! ! Please wish me luck. Any advise welcome.

Hi. Good place to come. I have had numerous attempts at stopping over the last 6 years. It ended up with me losing 2500 on a credit card two weeks ago!! 10,500 in debt and more importantly incredibly stressed. Typing that now makes me wonder what online slots actually had going for them!! I now have no access to funds and my wife is helping me with my debts! Best thing I did losing that 2500, probably not but it would have happened sooner or later and possibly worse. This is how I am looking at it now and hopefully you can. Take positive from a bad situation. All the best, take care and don't be too hard on yourself.

Good luck with your quest chocolate.... things do get easier I'm at 58 days gambling free following 14 years of heavy gambling racking up 10s of thousands too .. do you have anyone you can confide in and help take control of your finances ? If online is your weak point I found ordering a new card and scratching off the security number before i took note of it really worked so I can't use online sites via my card.

Hopefully your new job will be a good distraction for you too so keep focused on that. I wish you luck and keep posting how you are getting on it will help.

Danny

Thanks so much that seems like such a good, easy thing to do. I never even thought of it.

No one to confide in, will tell my husband when he comes over but don't think it's fair to do it now. He would end up worrying and just feel he is of no use, don't want to do that, will wait for him to come over.

Do you mind me asking is this your first time to try and quit. I can't imagine what you have gone through for 14 years. You are doing really well.

Thanks again for the tip that will definitely help me.

Best wishes

Hi Chocolate,

Welcome to the Forum!

You say that feeling pro-active is helping you to address your gambling problem at the moment and I noticed that you have already interacted with other Forum members and asked for advice. It is a really good step in the right direction, especially when you feel that you cannot yet talk to the people around you.

We have an information page on this website on blocking software and some of these (i.e. K9) are free of charge. Take a look here: http://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-advice/what-can-you-do/blocking-software#.VBwD8fldXww

If you would like to get more advice and maybe an idea of which other support structures are available to you, you can always give us a call on the Helpline on 0808 80 20 133 or contact the Netline http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/frontline-services/netline . The latter provides the advice via online chat withh one of our team members. Both services are open from 8 am to midnight every day and they can also help you with information on or referrals to counselling services.

All the best to you and stay strong!

Gabriele
