Hi - I didnt know what else to do so googled gambling help and came across this site.

I have been using my NEW (2wk old) credit card to play slots online - I won and deposited £1500, still didnt cover what i had spent originally over last few weeks - Thinking i could maybe win again i re-added over and over again and now i have maxed out the credit card we are supposed to be using to pay off the last part of our holiday at the end of this month.

I have over the last few months played but kept it to a minimum as it was through a normal every day living account, then i recieved the card (Which we only got for the holiday) I feel physically sick and im shaking and trying not to cry, I'm disabled and mostly bed bound my hubby is downstairs as he sleeps down there and my son is in his room. I feel trapped and wanna scream - i cant believe i have done this. :o( xx

Hello Amanda76xx

Welcome to the forum. It's good that you found us and decided to reach out for some help. I can only imagine that being bed bound for periods of time is extremely challenging, and I'm wondering what kind of support you have. The sudden access to money that came about when your credit card arrived must have made it really difficult for you, but try not to worry as it's a mistake and something that you can get help with.

I'm wondering if you've told your husband about what's happened. Either way we would really like to support you with this. Perhaps you would like to phone the helpline or netline so we can discuss this with you further. We also provide free face-to-face and online counselling, which you may find useful. Please see details here: http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/free-counselling#.VvqVnun2ab0 or call us for more information.

Best wishes

Laura

Hi Amanda

Its very important that you do one thing straight away and that is forget the money you have lost, let go it has gone, it may seem like a lot now and hurt, but you have 2 choices, 1 is stop now and get help, I guarentee if you do this, a few months down the line, maybe even just weeks, it won't seem so bad and will be managable, also close all gambling sites and put k9 on your laptop, and if you feel he can take it I would highly recomend telling your OH

your 2nd choice is to chase that money with more money, what will happen then is you dig a bigger hole I GAURENTEE that, you will lose much much more money, more than you possibly imagine, everthing will get worse and worse and you will lose your mind, self worth and probably everything else you love

which sounds like the best idea to you?

Please get help from Gamcare and GA, things are not as bad they will be if you don't

best wishes

PD

Hi Amanda,

I know the 1.2k lost feeling! Pretty demoralising to look at your bank account with that big chunk missing/or debt.
All you can do now is not gamble, it really is the most logical thing once you have a week to a month thinking about it. No gambling means no possibility of loosing money.

Also dont dry gamble like I was (playing free roullete to see what happens thinking if only I used another 1k from somewhere I can get back even) this only tempts you and P****s you off more.

You are probably going to have to tell your OH as the money on your card was supposed to be used for something meaningful. It would be way less stressful than hiding credit card statements from here on in.

We all do stupid things right? Im sure after the inital shock he will be supportive, my GF was and I really thought she would be completley bemused!

Read storys on here as much as you can, not just the new section but success stories too. They will give you hope and inspirational ideas on how to move on and get the loss fixed at least mentally in your head.

We all wish you well.

Reddy

Its so so hard even now i'm thinking oh whats £20 ... I cant bring myself to delete the apps .. Dont get me wrong i know i have a problem but cant quite shake this alter ego of mine thats saying "Its only to win to benefit" but its not its JUST greed.........

I feel as though i have gotten out of a horrible situation, my husband still doesnt know and when my kids (16 & 13) have caught me i say its only play money ............ god i hate this!!!

Hi Amanda,

The reality is its not play money as you full well know! It's your money to be used properly. Yeah it's a buzz when your gambling but is it really?

I loved the live casino and still do really. It's such a cliche but the hot foreign ladies are just part of the psychology to mess with your head. The fact that they pretty much talk to u about movies or tv is such a subtle undertone but makes a massive difference. I was originally playing for money with sports betts but when I found the casino part I was playing to feel valued and liked also.

Your there pumping your hard earned cash into the roullete or blackjack and it's your choice watching it go disapear in front of you for nothing! What is that all about. Yeah you might win sometimes but that in itself is just encouragement to go back a week later when you have some time on your hands. I guess that's why bookies are so happy to pay out even big amounts. They probably can assume that it's gonna be back with them at some point.

Just don't do it Amanda. We are all better than wasting our money. Even small amounts £20 here and there adds up pretty quick! You said your bed bound a lot, perhaps try to find other more fulfilling interests to occupy you. Especially as you have it harder than most of us here who are able to go to work or something and be away from the gambling world at least for 8hrs a day. I really hope you and myself included can see that it's not healthy and it's an uneccesary stress that's not needed, therefore stopping all dangerous forms of gambling.

Again wish you well, and set up a day counter if you have not already. Good motivator.
