Hi this is my first post as I desperately need to give up online gambling. 2 years ago I had lost every penny I had, had credit card debts, overdrafts and bank loans that I could not afford to pay and was robbing peter to pay paul just to make the minimum monthly repayments. I was desperate, had no where to turn and could not see anyway out. I had lost over £100000 playing poker, gambling with bookies, casinos and even online bingo! Every poker player I spoke to was a winner and there was not one losing person on any gambling forum, it seemed that I was the only loser. I hated the situation I was in and swore that only if I could win the £100000 back again I would never gamble again. So 2 years ago I deposited my £100 rent money into a betting exchange account and attempted to win all my money back by betting on horses. I was studying and watching horse racing 18 hours every day 7 days a week. I have never worked so hard but gradually my betting bank began to grow. It is now 2 years later and this week I have made the £100000 target I was aiming for. I have won back every penny I had ever lost. Now my problem. When I was in debt I swore that if I won the £100000 back I would never bet again. Now I have won it all back I need to stop gambling so I never lose all that money again but knowing that I have managed to win it all back I keep thinking if i keep going and win another £10000 or more then I could give up but if I do that i will never stop. I never want to be in debt again so please help me to stop.

I think you should take this story and shove it, what do you think telling CG's that youve made £100K by chasing losses will do to our mindsets, our minds will make us think its easy to win that sort of money and people will end up geting themselves into even more debt. Gamcare - for me you should monitor this site better and delete posts which promote gambling. Please go away and dont post again as youre not helping anyone with posts like this

Well thanks for the support. I thought this was a site to help addicted gamblers give up their habit. I have admitted I have a gambling problem and desperately want to give up. I have been in a mess financially, hit rock bottom and luckily have managed to climb out of the financial mess and now need to combat the gambling addiction before it gets the better of me.Just because I have won money does that exclude me from help and advice??

So what do you want me to do, come on this site and lie? Is that what you do? You are criticising me for plucking up the guts to admit I have a problem, telling the truth and asking for help? Does it matter one little bit if I have won or lost? I thought this was a site for addicted gamblers who want to get help to get better, not a site for people in financial difficulties, you have CAB for that? Maybe you need to admit to yourself that you have a gambling problem and try to sort it out rather than worry how much people have won or lost (a gambler). So if you had won money and not lost you would not have a gambling addiction correct? Maybe you are just feeling sorry for yourself because you have lost and if you had won you would think you have no gambling problem when clearly you do? Think before you speak.

Come on the site and talk about the downsides of gambling all you had to do was leave it at the point where you said you had lost £100k and people would appreciate where youre coming from. You have publicised the fact you won money by CHASING LOSSES (which is a no no for problem gamblers). There are people here who have lost everything and your posts just make them feel worse and feel that regaining their losses is possible.

I think were all in agreement that its you who needs to think before you speak

Sorry cryhavoc,

I have to agree whith the last post. There is no benefit to anyone including yourself to mention that you have solved your problems by gambing. Its just not relevant. That aside well done your recent success.

You should have just posted that you had a gambling problem and then started to seek help about it.

No one can tell you what you need to do to stop gambing, in the end it will be down to you. There is plenty of support available if YOU really want to stop gambling. Good Luck

Guys

I am trying to be open and honest. I could of came on here and said I had lost £100000 but then people would of been sympathetic and maybe give me advice on how to deal with my 'Debts' but then I would feel really bad as I have no debts so I thought the best way was to be open and honest right from the beginning with no lies. As other people have posted it is just numbers and the amount won or lost is only relevant to the individual as £500 is a lot to some people and nothing to others. At the end of the day the amount is irrelevant, the fact is we have all admitted that we are addicted to gambling, we all want and need help and should be supporting one another not criticising each other.

The problem isn't about how much you have won or lost but the fact that you displaying the message "gamble and it will solve all your problems". Im not offended by your post in the slightest its just that I want the best support for people when they post here and I dont think youre doing that mate.

PS its nothing personal so dont get offended when user dont approve of your post. They are just being honest.

Good Luck Mate

Some great advice here ''Now stop gambling'' yep and don't we all wish it was that easy. In fact if it is that easy why are you on this site? All I seem to be reading in everyone's messages is that you have to lose money to be addicted to gambling and deserve any help? So If I put all my money on the spin of a roulette wheel on Red because I am addicted and the ball lands on Red I do not deserve any help but if the ball had landed on black you would of all felt sorry for me as I lost and offer me lots of help and sympathy for my addiction? If that is the case maybe your problems are deeper than being addicted to gambling?? Do you think if you were a winner and not a loser you would therefore not be addicted to gambling?

Hi Cryhavoc, my personal opinion on this is that you do have a problem and have been fortunate enough to cover your losses by winning, I am sure others have managed to get some of their losses back in the same way what you have to do now is to stop yourself giving it all back...this is where your compulsion will be tested. All i can suggest is now you have your money back put the barriers in place...think about it do you really want to go back and give the 100K back...cause you probably will as i have done with wins before. Get yourself excluded from where you gambled and also from all the places you feel you could gamble. What about your 100k...do you have outstanding debts...like a mortgage..why not pay a lump sum off that? Hope i have been of some help and stay gamble free.
