Good morning people,
I have tried many times to beat this horrible addiction. I managed 200 days last year but have been slowly gambling & losing huge amounts again.Â
I just feel lost in this merry go round of of an addiction, the buzz of winning & even the masses losses isn’t enough to make me stop.Â
7 years of addiction, where did it come from? What caused it? I wish I only knew & how to stop.Â
I met some great people on here last year who kept me focused & then I have lost my way again.Â
I have a great family, home & job but feel the only way to beat this is to lose it all which destroys me.Â
According to those who know you need to detox for 30 days before you feel better. Pleasure and pain go hand in hand and you can not have one without getting the other. You get to much with the good you will be spending some time later dealing with the bad it makes sense and I can not explain it in any other way. There is no magic of button we will be fighting triggers because we live in a society that wants you too be tiggered. So we are all reared for the next dopamine high and we live in a dopamine world that is hell bent on making you addicted to stuff. Not everyone gets addicted but a lot of people do. Look at usage of mobile phones and you will see just how many.
I do suggest kbt for sorting out your immediate thoughts and concerns. Sometimes life is a maze and we do not see any outs.. Always know there are options and alternatives. You, I and everyone else is here to learn. And we learn everyday by new things happening.
A kbt practitioner will give you some tools to guide you in the right direction. It will help almost immediately so give it a chance. Abstain. You will not get better unless you abstain for a while. A month is the recommended time
Know that you will get lots of support and likeminded souls on here that can share and help.
Best

Hello  c17ort
Welcome back to the Forum, it is really good to see you here.
You managed to get to 200 gamble free last year, which is a massive achievement and you can do this again. Problem gambling is cunning, powerful and baffling and without help it is too much.
It appears that you became complacent which happens. However, the key is to continue your Recovery Journey and staying connected with like minded people, sharing your experience, strength and hope with each other.
Along with the Forum, we have Advisers available 24/7 to help you through this early stage of Recovery. You can contact an Adviser by calling our Helpline on 0800 8020 133 or using our LiveChat option. I encourage you to make contact so we can discuss the best way to move forward.
In the meantime, please don't be hard on yourself and at least feel good about yourself for reaching out for support.
You are not alone c17ort - we all right behind you.
Best
