I've just joined this forum as the first step in overcoming what I fear is a gambling addiction. I've not spoken to anyone about this before, not even my partner or my friends.

I gamble each day, some days it is just a fiver on a random horse in a race. Other days (especially evenings) it can be hundreds of pounds on casino games.

I used to enjoy the thrill of it but for the past two months I've chased winning back a slight debt on my credit card which has only resulted in me spending more. Tonight it hit home, I had worked my way up to having half the debt in winnings before losing it all and I realised it is four days after payday, my money is gone, my credits card debt is growing and I can't stop thinking and worrying about what will happen if I carry on.

Having been 'very down' in terms of money before and winning it back, I tell myself I will always win it back, but that seems to have stopped in the past month or so to the point I now get so stressed out with gambling it gives me headaches and makes me feel sick.

I could really do with some advice as to how I'm going turn this situation around.

Open to anybody's advice who has been in a similar rut or knows someone who has been,

P

Hello Pete_991,

Thank you for joining the GamCare forum and sharing your story. I've moved your post to the 'New Member Introductions' section because this is the section where most new members will introduce themselves, and many of our experienced forum members make a point of checking that section to welcome new members.

I can see also that you've started a diary which is great. We look forward to following your journey.

It sounds like you're very isolated with this problem because you feel you can't tell family or friends. Hopefully you will find support here on the forum from people who are or have been in similar situations. If you feel you need some 1:1 advice from a GamCare adviser, please give us a call on the HelpLine on 0808 8020 133, or if you prefer you can chat to us on the NetLine.

Keep posting,

Deirdre
