Hi everyone,

I have been on this site before and found it useful . Back then I thought I could actually carry on gambling sensibly. How wrong I was. My year up until the start of last week had actually been going really well. I had saved a lot of money through being busy at work and was actually spending some of it to treat my family, which I never used to do.

However since last Monday I have relapsed massively. I have managed to blow 19k in the last week. Quite unbelievable. 8k of that was acactually money I'd won this year, the rest was my hard earned money, working long hours. I have managed to stop short of blowing everything I have,I need this money for my family. The thing I must do now is make sure I never go back to gambling.

The funny thing is,part of me is kind of relieved I no longer have that money in my account. Having it creates a constant temptation to gamble, without it the urges are not there as much. I just can't seem to be content with having money in my account, all I see it there for is gambling money. I must add I do have 10k of credit card debt also but have paid 3k this year to reduce it from 13k.

This is surely a wake up call for me. The more money I earn the bigger the stakes get. I need to find contentment within myself first. That is very difficult after what I have just done but I am ready for the fight.

I will make the right choice.
Thanks for your time in reading.

Hi right choice,

Thanks for your post, and welcome back to the forum. It sounds like you're in a different place currently than the last time you were around, and now you're ready to get serious about quitting. I hope you'll find some great support and info on our forum and our site for doing just that.

Have you thought about getting any counselling at this point? Individual counselling could help you sort out why you gamble like you do, and help you with ways to manage the urges that come up. It could help you explore your relationship with money, and maybe try to make that a bit healthier, where you're actually able to appreciate having money in your account. Counselling is what tends to help gamblers the most, and it can help you have a more solid recovery from all the stress this life creates, and hopefully help you on the path towards contentment.

If this sounds like something you'd like to speak to us more about, we'd be happy to chat with you on either the Helpline (0808 8020 133) or the Netline from 8am to midnight any day of the week.

Hope this helps,

Travis
