Okay, so i've just realised i've spent over £200 over the last two days on online slots and its about time i started working out how to get help.
It started a year ago with online bingo, started with one site, then two then three. I'd set deposit limits each week but obviously the more sites i joined, no matter how small the deposit limits are it all still mounted up. I'd self exclude for weeks at a time, alternated between a select few sites.
Then i started playing slots, on the same sites. And now i've joined more sites. I've stopped playing bingo, i now play two slots but on lots of different sites. I've been gambling for a long time now, so i know how the sites work. Signed up to a new site the other day and won over £900 within a few minutes. For some reason i kept playing until it had all gone. Made me feel sick 🙁
Sadly i'd started chasing that money and here i am, £200 down and nothing to show for it.
My husband doesn't know, none of my friends know i have a problem. I've gotten quite good at lying about how much money i spend. Husband would divorce me if he knew, he's so precious about money.
I've tried desperately to find a software to block gambling, K9 didn't work for some reason :/
Sadly i need pc for coursework, so that temptation is always there while i'm working.
I know that just blocking sites isn't going to help. I seem to spend my life online, on Facebook or whatever. I'm a mum of 4, youngest is 3yrs old and she's due to start school in September. My life is pretty dull and boring really. Spose this is why i gamble, chase that excitement. It's not about the money, it's about the winning i think. :/
I'm studying to go back to work once little one is starts school in september, so i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's just the habit and routine i need to break.
I get paid mondays and tuesday nights, so i'm up past 12am waiting for money to go into bank so i can play a few slots. I've had enough now, it's not fun anymore.
I thought i'd come here, reading other people's stories make me realise i'm not on my own. 🙂
Have just checked my Mcafee, and i've put parental controls on my laptop. As i'm admin, i've had to put such a random password of random letters, hoping i don't remember them all. :/
I'm trying, i really am. 🙁
Hi mygirlgmissy.
Yes you must stop right now because I am here to tell you how dangerous and addictive those slots are.
Please ring gamcare as many times as you like and the aim now is to realise you have been a compulsive gambler and get your healthy state of mind back. A chat with the doctor about your life can also be a great idea.
They are a losers game. They are programmed to bring on near misses, false wins and token amounts. They are programmed to bring on the red gambling mist and make you play to extinction. Ive seen people put thousands into them including me. They are not an income scheme as thats not how it works for the punter. Far from it, they will take every penny you have.
The more you learn about gambling you will realise that you were playing for an escape or a chemical mind fix. It becomes less about the money until you realise its all gone and it was food money.
It is one of the most dangerous addictions but you will get your life back with proper blocks and focusing that all it does it take every good pound from you....youve seen what it does, the distress it causes and its a total losers game....the gambling industry want your money and the odds are heavily in their favour to the point that you dont understand what the real odds are. People like you and me could never walk away anyway so its not for us. Fun it is not!
You will need to discuss it and if you feel any urges to play someone will need control over your money. Those urges will die away as you get back to the land of reality
You will have to ensure that you start self excluding and get all the support you can to lead a healthy life again
You may well have to tell the people close that gambling got you because its far preferable to secrets and what a gambling problem is capable of doing. We all recommend that you have no secrets from family but thats something you will work through in time
So if you keep using the forum and realise how dangerous gambling is, you will put this behind you. Being gamble free is a great feeling and I can now help others.
I want you to join us gamble free
Best wishes from everyone on the forum
