kI have noticed some people are struggling after periods of abstinence.
When I go on the chat rooms and chat to some of the people who have been there a while without a gamble, I think what is driving us? What is making the difference ? Well we are supporting each other, have put blocks in place, either in GA, Smart recovery or counselling. Or various combinations of the former. Some are taking up hobbies in addition to this like the gym. Some have been open with family and friends and have the extra support. Just the other day I was feeling triggers and spoke to someone on the netline just to talk a few things through, instead of gambling and I am now heading for two years clean. I am not immune from relapsing but use the tools to keep me in check when necessary.
I urge all of those trying to end this awful addiction, that to come clean you need to work very hard and use all tools to help you. This is real and as addictive and destructive as some of the strongest chemical addictions. Before payday put blocks in place keep the netline close at hand when times are difficult. Get onto the chat line to share your hardships and let those who know guide you through. Self exclusion get it done easier now than before
Then before you know it you will be a day clean, blink again a week goes by suddenly you have done a month. Then we are congratulating you on 90 days. A year goes by and gambling is barely there.
This addiction can be overcome but you need to take action and take the responsibility for the blocks. Get support and find your reasons work through them we are here to help. Procrastinate today and tomorrow you lose more. Take care all.

Thanks loxie
It is good to be reminded myself sometimes as it is easy to forget how hard it was at times.
Never give up on an addict, when "I" becomes "WE", illness becomes wellness!
Affected by gambling?
