Hi all like it says i started with a big win on a scratch card, it was the start of last year and me and my partner was always arguing mainly about money. He lost his job 4 years ago and i was pregnant, the mortgage didn't get paid for nearly a year and we was in debt everywhere. We both found part time jobs that worked well around the kids and school runs. He went work and returned then i went work both of us doing 6 days a week. I was working 2 different jobs very close to each other 2 hours each with a half a hour break in between. The second job had a vending machine so usually i went to grab a drink relax and start again. On a thursday it wasnt working so the following day i dicided to pop in sainsburys to grab a drink i had £2 change so i grabbed a scratch card... woo hoo i won £10 so i swopped it for 2 more and on the second 1 i couldn't believe my luck when i realized i won £70,000. I was top of the world, i told everyone posted it on facebook and everything. We paid all our debts £35,780 worth and started doing the house up. In between i found a bingo site and started of harmless £10. The stresses started with my sons dad and my son started ascting up more at school. We finally found out my son is asd (autistic) and things started to get abit better with him but more things started popping up. My gambling got worse and before i knew it i've spent £17,600 wasted. Now the money has gone but my gambling is worse then ever, i've used bill money then borrowed it and lied so much to my family. I've now decided to get help after sitting at the top of a bridge pondering if my kids would be better of without me. Life started of so well with a big win but now im so low somedays i dont even want to get up. Any advice and helpful tips would be highly appreciated. XxXxXx

Hi sounds to me like your chasing that feeling of elation you got from the big win

You have come to the right place for help and support.

all i can say is being a CG is progressive you still have your family and home

Get the help and fight to keep them.

I am not in a position to offer advice other then turn all money maters over to your husband that means every thing no credit cards or bank cards dont carry cash only what you need for your day to day expenses .

At this present minute i am pulling my hair out because i have no access to money to gamble

but i know from previous experience its to only way i can stop

Hi mummytoex,

Welcome to the Forum and thanks for posting your gambling experience here. It is good that you have found this forum, as a lot of people here have been where you are before; The big win and then the problem. People have been able to come out of this, and some of them on here have been able to stop gambling, as they also like you have found out that this isn't the life that they wanted for themself and their love ones, you can also stop if that is what you want. There is help.

I am hearing of your despaire and wanting all this to go away. From what you have mentioned, it sounds like you are still the loving mum who wants the best for her children, the only difference is the gambling that seems to have become a problem for you, and that, you can get help to stop if you are determined to work on your recovery.

You can speak to one of our advisors on our Free Helpline or on our Netline, all of which can be sourced out on this forum.

We will also be able to give you free counselling if you want to look at the underlying reasons for your gambling.

We run a live chatroom every evening from 8-9pm, you can join any of our chats, and communicate live with people who have been where you are before, and they will support you. You can also go on our Recovery Diary section of this forum, and read from how others have opened their own diary on here and posted constantly on their experience through their recovery journey, and how others are willing to support by replying to encourage. You can also open your own recovery diary, amd you will not be alone in your recovery.

You have come to the right place, we are all here to support you.

Regards

Florence (Forum Admin.)

Hi Florence,

Thank you for the support i think i just needed to actually admit to myself there is a problem and start recovering. I feel abit lighter already and its great having some support and help but also knowing im not alone . It can get to a stage where i feel completly alone and think i'm being judge but i now see its not the case.
