Still trying to stop, have managed to stay away from bookies but the urge is still there, just thinking if i win another £100, in back to having back what I lost, constantly thinking I can get it back, your right though, the bookies do put displays up but never once have I seen or had a bookie say to me, come on mate you've spent enough, not like in a pub where they refuse to serve you, there should be law where the bookie can legally not serve you if they see your spending too much , bookies have seen myself and others pumping notes into machines like Monopoly money but have never once said come on calm down something should be done

Your right acorn something should be done, however I don't see any future where that will change.

You can do this stay strong. That 100 that you could win back...... think of how you'd feel when you don't win it back and lose more. We could win 1000 and we'd put back in. We can't win Acorn because we can't stop that's the difference.

I wish you all the luck stay strong you can do this.

Sazzy xx

Cheers sazzy, I'm a bit upset as my last post people seemed supportive and then stopped talking so it made me feel alone

I'm ashamed to say I never saw your last post Acorn i'm sorry, but I'am here for you.

I will check on you everyday and we can support each other! If you stop gambling your finances will improve mine have there not great but better and now I'm not gambling and have my eyes wide open I can certainly see that.

It's a really long road Acorn everyday will be a battle but it will get easier.

With regards to the bookies why don't you self exclude yourself? Walk in there with your head held and high and ask to self exclude. That's 1 to you 0 to the bookies.

xx

Hi acorn and welcome to the forum.

Well done on continuing to stop. Unfortunately we all have/get urges to gamble and those urges don't care for how long we have stopped. We need to make sure our barriers are in place to deal with those urges.

Fobt's in bookies were my vice but we all know the bookie is never going to ask you to leave and would rather you placed every last penny into the machine.

It is better to focus on staying away, breaking this horrible addiction we all have and continued abstaining than having a go at the industry.

Please try not to chase your losses. You know as well as I do the bookie always wins. I won a substantial amount one day and put it all back (and more) the next.

I gave up all access to cash and cards meaning my gambling triangle is broken. Not knowing your circumstances I do not know it that is viable to hand over the finances to someone else. But always worth a thought.

Try to focus on the future and not the past

Best wishes

Hi, Acorn,

I get that temptations are out there but the choice of gambling or not gambling is yours. Your responsibility to overcome temptation. It's no good blaming the bookies, some of their tactics are low but you're not a small kid, take responsibility for yourself, for what you do. You don't have to take all the sweeties, you can say no.

Try GA, get help for yourself. Try barriers, limit your access to cash or credit, get someone to help you do this. If that's not easy, then try an instant saver account with cash card so you can't deposit, but it's up to you to deal with it. The bookies won't do it for you! Better financial advice can be found at the CAB or Stepchange.

Stick with it and best wishes,

CW

Always think and say to yourself. Lottery and scratchcards are all the same regardless off what odds say. Acorn my friend once said. "Its not that i don't want you to win" its because "your not gonna win" best lines I've ever heard. If they want you to win they why sell lottery tickets, scratch cards ( they are the worst at £20 some I've seen)?  I one point was addicted to lottery tickets. I played same numbers.Sometimes i go through 2 weeks not buying 1 ticket. The next week i have one go. I dont get addicted on buying loads of lottery tickets like i used to cos i know im not gonna win. I just play thunderball as odds wise its the easiest game to win. I have had 2 close wins at £100 on thunderball back 2019.  Mark these words. Next time your near a shop think this "Its not that i dont want you to win" on lottery or scratchcards acorn. The odds are against you that "your not gonna win" hope this helps you in your way of combatting your thinking. Just when u need to just keep telling and make yourself believe it and say your not gonna win. Hope this makes sense. Reply back please
