As of Monday 19th October I celebrate being gambling free for two and half months. Over lockdown I suffered many personal bereavements which caused my gambling to quickly spiral out of control. I realised a few months ago I needed to make a change to help me stop gambling completely. With the support of therapy and of family and friends I have started to overcome my gambling issue. I know I have a long way to go and everyday is difficult but I now feel happier than I did while gambling and each day it gets slightly easier. I would be very interested to hear of other people’s similar success stories against problem gambling as I celebrate my two and half month break from gambling.

Congrats. I'd be interested to hear what therapy you did that helped and hear a bit more of your story.

Chris.

Hi Chris I’ve been involved in weekly cbt sessions helping me to control my urges to gamble. What causes them, when do they arrive, how long do they last and most importantly how to get past them. Really helped when I have the inevitable urge to gamble while out in town and it would be really easy to go into a betting shop.

@mg5201998 That's good to hear that tratment worked for you. From what I know of it you need to keep it up and not get complacent with it otherwise it's a slippery slope back and all the good work is for nothing.

For my own recovery I had to reach anothe rock bottom moment, get myself back to GA and do the twelve step recovery program and giving a lot back to other people. That helped me through bereavement as well as some situations that in the past have sent me straight back to it. Nearly three years now. My difference now from previous times is I feel I actually have a recovery and not just an abstainence from gambling, but I am very aware that I could have another bet, but I work hard every day to ensure that I don't.

Chris.
