Hello everyone,

Up until last week I had not gambled since December. I fancied a little bet and as my 6 month self exclusion had ran out online i deposited £20.

I lost the £20 and i just couldnt shake that feeling of a loss, i had to win it back to get evens.

I am now here a week later and but for a late goal in a football match i would be £1,500 down, due to chasing i had £500 (my biggest ever bet) on a 4/5 shot, thanks to the goal i am 'only' £600 down.

Why do we do this? I go months without a bet and am now £600 down in just over a week and it was so close to being £1,500. I feel the last 4 months of no gambling has been undone in one week of madness.

How do i stop this for good? I seem to be able to say no to a bet for a while but once I have lost a bet I just cannot accept it and chase. I have tried blocking sites on my phone but its too easy to get around it.

500 on a 4/5? Big bet fella. I lost £100 on a beach footy bet last Friday, that was the final straw in a 3day spell of losing £900.

I never felt so bad before and will always remember this feeling when tempted. I have self-exluded for a year on b****5 and skybet. The 2 things I learn from these forums are;

A) we are not alone

B) draw a line in the sand and move forward

I haven't bet simce Sat now and feel positive. Small steps, but I will get there. Time for u to start again fella.

Good luck

I too have recently fallen just before the 100-day mark...that was 3 weeks ago. I am down about £200 in total and I feel sick. Yesterday my partner found out about my recent wobble, needless to say was very upset, angry and disappointed. We talked, argued and we are ok now (ish). The best thing that could have happened was him finding out. I have (regrettably) reset my counter back to 0 (I am now on day 1 AGAIN!).

The point of my little story is that you will get past this little wobble. Can you close your account or self exclude indefinitely? I firmly believe that everyone can get back on their feet again. Keep trying and you'll get there 🙂

It started off with me losing £50 and it has turned into me now being £640, lost a further £40 since was last on here few days ago.

I know I will not be happy until i win most of it back, i just know i will lose more if i try to though. I was tempted earlier to lose no more then £1000 but i havent gave in.

Its just annoying how we can go a while without a bet and then lose a lot in a week.

I set 6 month self exclusions last year, i will make it a year this time

Absolutely, I completely agree. I just think this horrible addiction keeps trying to get to us but we must not let it, no matter how strong we feel. The thing that tipped me over this time was doing a scratchcard, silly, I know! I won only £13 but I still won which made me think I was invincible..which obviously I'm not! You'll do it as will I. 🙂

Why only set it for a year? It has to be a permanent exclusion or you'll always go back to it. Shut that window of opportunity down for good!

We can only gamble when we have Time, Opportunity & Money (TOM). Take one of them away and can't gamble.

You can self exclude permanentley right now even if you have already set an exclusion for 6 months or a year etc. Agree with Vamp, if you are serious about stopping then why leave any doors open?

It is the mistake I have been making, only self excluding for 6 months and once the 6 months is over think i can have a little bet which costs me hundreds when i should have just self excluded again straight away. I dont want to be anymore so currently looking for the best blocking software available, i just want to click on a gambling site and it not let me anywhere near it, having access to it every now and then keeps costing me a lot.

CM blocking software will help too but just give the sites you a currently excluded from a quick call and make the exclusion permanent. It will only take a few minutes out of your day

I asked my internet provider to block all over 18 content and it blocks too much that is nowhere near 18 content so i took it off in the end, if they could just block gambling content i would do that but dont think they can

I'm with bt..
I set it up myself under parental controls...
Bt have a specific gambling option...
I'm sure most companies offer the same sort of parental controls...I only ever gambled at home on my laptop so this option worked great for me in the early days....not a chance of getting to online slots

Hi CM3003.

Dont look at this like you are back to square one. Move on to a proper recovery stage where your blocks are solid and monitored.

The truth is that the addiction resides in you and its seen an easy opportunity to gamble. There is no room for half measures here and your willpower alone will not do this. You may find it hard to face the truth that you like the door open to have a flutter and your four months was not the test. On a proper recovery scale you didnt move much past square one and thats a truth you need to face up to. Your four months wasnt based on a solid foundation and thats when buildings come tumbling down

I see clearly that we set ourselves false tests before being fully ready. I did that for 10 months and I realise now that I was in such a confused state that I was congratulating myself for 1 month.... two weeks and then 6 days away from gambling. I have to say that I wasnt tackling it properly at that stage and the addiction was still controlling me.

You stop with real blocks and close family support. You stop with proper blocking software and the bank blocking transactions. You stop by handing gadgets over and living on a tiny allowance. You stop with tiny amounts of cash on you and providing receipts to people who care about you. All these ways make it very difficult if not impossible to gamble.

Then you find out who you are and all about one of the worst addictions in modern society.

You need to do some exercises to be shocked into focus. You wouldnt pay the bookies yacht insurance if they stopped you in the street but thats what you have been doing. They took your self respect and your pride long ago

Take the fight on. There is help all around you

Best wishes from everyone on the forum
