I’m doing the self help course at the moment and have been gamble free for 9 days now which is fab. But I feel weird. The hours are going by so slowly and I just want to curl up in bed and sleep the rest of this year away, but instead I’m having to force myself to stay at work. I think my mind needs rebooting.
you are doing great! keep yourself busy and if think you might gamble speak to someone. its not going to easy but you are already doing great. one hour at a time to days then months
Hi MagsyÂ
well done for getting to 9 days! Trust me it gets easier. As hard and terrifying as it is, whether it’s the urges or the regret, guilt and the self hating just remember it takes time. When gambling we lost perspective of time and value for pretty much everything. It’s ok if nothing else feels important or exciting currently. It’s completely normal because nothing can really compare with the mental exhaustion and thrill of gambling. What helped me early on is simply switching off when you have those down moments, go to sleep and the next day becomes a bit easier. Think only to tomorrow and take it a day at a time. Try to program your brain to other things like your work even though you probably cannot focus on it. But that’s ok, as long as you are staying occupiedÂ
Whatever happens just do not gamble again. These days will pass very soon and then with a clearer mindset you can think longer term and how to make new positive changes.Â
all the very bestÂ
Keep going it will get better and easierÂ
Thanks alonzoharris, beatpeace and Mikee.Â
I'm sure once I fill up my thoughts and time with things other than gambling then I'll be okay.
When I think of gambling now I just say to myself 'No, I'm keeping my money and going to be rich'.Â
Whatever works xx
Hi @magsy,
Well done for your 10 days gambling free and your continuing posts on the Forum.
You are absolutely right in thinking about focusing your mind on other things and it is so essential to recovery. Have you thought about looking into some creative hobbies like cooking/baking or joining a club/course that might be of interest to you? The time element of the gambling triangle can and should be fun and it can enhance your recovery considerably.
Keep sharing, focusing and having fun with your recovery.
Regards
Dan
