Some 37 days gamble free and paying off more debt than I normally would be and feeling more time on my hands with my family .. I should be feeling great ........

however no the opposite - a feel down, upset, withdrawn, uninterested in anything all in all pretty s**t... Can't understand why - anyone else get this after similar time periods GF

Hi, hope your well and still gamble free reading this?

I'm only on my second day gamble free so it's easier to keep strong (due to the pain of the last loss still being raw), but I've made it past 50 days in the past.

I'm not sure of any easy pick ups, but I think what we are is adrenaline junkies in effect.... We crave that buzz that you get from the spin of a wheel or the the feeling of accomplishment having beaten the bookies!!

Maybe a good idea could be to treat yourself to something at say day 50... Obviously it's finance dependant, but maybe aim for a little something Just to lift your spirits?

A few months back I was doing well not gambling, and as a result I was working harder and earned promotion at work. I got a nice pay rise any treated myself to an Omega watch with it!

It wasn't cheap but I know when I put it on that I earned it through hard work and strong will and it gives a nice feeling when people comment on it!

Just hope it never sees the pawn brokers through returning to heavy gambling haha

Keep strong and good luck!

With good progress comes greater rewards

Hi kristhjkl,

Thanks for your post, and also for sharing your story with us.

It seems to me like you’re either experiencing something like withdrawal symptoms or, you’re feeling the loss of having stopped gambling, and that is not unusual.

With time, you’d get over it as it gets easier to cope with as you progress with abstaining from gambling.

It’s important that you replace your spare/ gambling time with some kind of activity/ hobbies to liven you up, and to distract you from the thought of gambling.

Like n22cks said, treat yourself from time to time with some of the money you saved from abstaining from gambling.

If still feeling the same, I’ll advise you to get in touch with our free phone Helpline on; 0808 8020 133, so we can offer you further help where possible.

Thanks once again for your post, and pls. keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Beatrice
